No, Kiritsugu. Honor and glory shown by heroes (knights) do not inspire youth to chase death or idolize bloodshed. In fact, they inspire the opposite. I think you are thinking of crusaders, who have the idea of conquering and seeking of war in their name.

Honor does not require war - it teaches the man to not harm his child, despite being stronger and trusted in his word by the community, allowing him a chance to lie.

The desire for glory is a thirst nearly people share in the form of respect and popularity in peer circles. The desire to be remembered. I am sure you can think of many examples where people sought glory through peace - such as, a king who drew fair law and gave their people gifts of knowledge and culture and protection, which leads them to go down in history as "the Great".

Kiritsugu is wrong. Heroes do not require weapons. A knight of my table wields their weapon in order to protect those who cannot protect themselves from belligerents who deny reason and the knight keeps that weapon in its sheath at all other times. A knight of my table seeks to better themselves. Those are heroes. Not those who chase war.

The mixing sounds of rainfall and birdsong reminds me of many painful memories. I touch them, am filled with sadness, and then those memories slip away like sand through my fingers.

I really have come so far. I feel like I've reached the point where I can ... "Honor" those memories. I'm not exactly sure how to say it, but it feels like since I am no longer in maniac despair, I can properly "remember" those moments without a fog of self-pity, rage, despair, or other powerful feeling tainting them. I can remember, I can regret, and I can yearn for a different path, but in a way that is... Productive... And honest.

Short Writing on the appeal of Saber x Gilgamesh

In a peaceful setting, Saber King Arthur and Archer Gilgamesh of fate/series are a very special pairing. This is because both are held by laws out of their control (because they are heroes sung by others) to never, ever, in any circumstance, acknowledge the other for who they are. In order to do so would lead to death of one of them, literally or figuratively. This dynamic is very unique and appealing. I'm going to talk about it now as to why I am not violently against Saber x Gilgamesh as an intimate paring - it cannot ever be healthy, but it can be artistic, philosophical, introspective, and teaching.

In order to be a happy relationship of ANY kind - rivals, lovers, spouses, enemies, master and servant, lord and vassal, pet and owner, anything at all, literally anything at all - the members of the relationship must somehow acknowledge and respect the other. In a way, they both are equals as kings, heroes, adults. Yet, they both are forced by their own personal law to never treat the other as a an equal, to never respect the other. They both will never, ever, in order to retain their identity. They would "die" if either did.

So, they are not equals. They are not above or below each other - they are simply two who should never, ever, in any circumstance, exist together. It's as if they generate conflict by existing at the same time.

Gilgamesh's lessons of restraint and preservation of life from his legend are destroyed when he desires Saber, a hero unobtainable by the king of heroes, and therefore a contradiction. Saber's whole existence has been orchestrated before birth to be the possession of Briton, and when Gilgamesh "obtains" them, even as a consenting equal, they suddenly are not King Arthur of legend by contradiction.

The only way they can acknowledge each other is through murder of the other, in order to remain alive. In order to remain as themselves... In order to remain as themselves. That relationship is interesting, and is why I am not against Saber x Gil when the relationship acknowledges those ideas - the idea that the existence of the other is almost a lethal toxin that eats away at who they both are.

Literature is born from conflict.

I believe both Saber and Gilgamesh are (now without the stupid grail) rational adults and heroes. They know who the other is to them, and they can appreciate the other in a now healthy way: never being their true selves when around the other. Never be intimate. Just look from afar - when in that situation, Saber is allowed to respect Gilgamesh and find him the strongest hero. And Gilgamesh is able to appreciate the beauty of the unobtainable.

Hi. Welcome to my TED Talks. Except for differences originating from things such as being assigned two different genders, and the two’s different experiences as servants, Arthur and Artoria have the exact same personality and the same exact values. They are exactly the same person in 💛 and soul - only their body and its experiences are different. Therefore, we should carefully examine how each of these experiences the gender and sex of the other in order to better understand them and gender roles in society. Some things I would like to underline, especially, are Artoria’s more reserved ways of speaking, while Arthur is more direct. Most of their lines, however, come from the same place and carry the same meaning, even if they are worded differently. Also, when choosing lines, they pick similar lines when the situation is similar to them. For example, when attacking with a lethal blow, they both yell “a decisive strike!”, and when they feel close to their master, they underline a need for trust and a warm feeling, dedicating their 🗡️. But only with lines that require more specific reactions they differ - they cannot both talk about Merlin the same way since they knew different Merlins, and they also were summoned to different wars. This brings my back around to their way of speech. Why would they say the same thing in a polite versus casual form? Why do they both trail off at the same time? I assert that this is because of gender roles in society. Artoria can be just as aggressive and stubborn as Arthur can, but feels it is more appropriate through socialization of AFAB girls. Arthur also shows times where he is reserved, especially to strangers. He draws back to a way of speaking similar to Artoria’s. This supports my claim that Artoria and Arthur have the exact same person inside of them, who was born and raised in only slightly different environments, making them the same person. When it comes to headcanons, there is sufficient evidence to support any that draw from the existence of the other - such as being transgender, being bisexual, history at Camelot, their relationships, etc.. We should respect and consider all headcanons that result from such things. Thanks for coming to my TED talks.
