ok, i think i’ll do the know-your-sabercat series by genus (i KNOW i just made a post bitching about how entry level articles homogenize entire genera ok i KNOW) but i’ll also be highlighting a few standout species within each genus and pointing out the differences in size, geographical range, and ecology between them. i also plan to include tips on how to draw them!

but there are like. 15 genera within the machairodontinae subfamily so i might just do the Big Five to start: megantereon, machairodus, homotherium, smilodon, and xenosmilus (and MAYBE dinofelis only because it got done almost as dirty as oviraptor)

i think i’ll start with homotherium :) standout members include h. latidens (BIG guy) and h. venezualensis (liddol guy)
