The sablières are the wooden beams between the tops of the walls and the ceiling, and they are carved with scenes of everyday life, religious themes, fantastical beasts, and foliage. At intervals there are little figures – all incredible.
The angel carrying the cross, the angel with the hand of the High Priest who slapped Christ, the angel with the ear of the High Priest’s servant, and angel with a cudgel?
The sablières are fantastical, magical, enchanting…

The vaulted ceiling is painted blue, with red, yellow and gold ribs, and the colour changes with the time of day, and light.
