Yesterday I got to see my 8th grade students at @sabotrva graduate. The maturity and self awareness they convey in their speeches at these graduations always blows me away. The Sabot Class of ‘22 did not disappoint! We didn’t just explore HipHop together, we explored ourselves, and then we found the courage to speak on it. One rhyme at a time. The impact they said I had on their lives is mutual. I was given a word cloud about myself that was created from a survey of the students and it made me so proud to see the words “encouraging” “helpful” and “speak-your-mind.” Apparently I’m also “cool” and an “amazing rapper” but before anything I’m just thankful. Not only for these brilliant young people, but for the Sabot community that has welcomed me from day one and made me feel like family, and for the incredible, patient faculty that lives true to it’s values in all efforts and aspects.
