When she got up, Andrea came over and gave her a tight hug.
Andrea: Good luck, dear. We want you to succeed with this. Someone needs to put a stop to what he is doing.
And then she leaned in and whispered a few more things to her, all of which Alma could only agree with.
Alma: Andrea, you don’t need to even ask. I’m so sorry you all went through this. And this won’t put things right, but at least I think you’ll get some satisfaction.
The other women nodded in agreement. After all, there was a bit of a personal interest as well in why they wanted her to succeed so much.
“So many ghosts…” Alma marveled as they ascended from the cellar.
“This is why the name of this place won’t tell you anything. Broken Hearts Lounge doesn’t exactly exist in the living world. It did once, but the building burned down and was never rebuilt. It still exists in the world of the dead, though,” Sabrina explained.
“Were they all killed?” Alma had to know.
“Some were. Others suffered from real accidents. Others simply passed away and didn’t move on. People become ghosts for the dumbest reasons, really.”
“You were with Brady. Did he…?”
“Kill me? Yeah, he has a nasty habit of doing that, it seems. Just ask Andrea over there,” she pointed to shimmering blue ghost who was intently listening to the equally ghostly pianist play an old-fashioned jazz piece. “She was his ex-wife too.”
The door opened to let in a ghost who looked absolutely delighted to see her.
“There you are! We’ve been waiting for you!” the woman enthused. “Oops, didn’t mean to scare you. I’m Sabrina, by the way. I believe you’ve met my Mom. Come on, come on, don’t stall now.”
“Uh, what is this place if you don’t mind me asking? And what’s with the gown?” Alma was confused.
“This is Broken Hearts Lounge, not that the name would tell you anything,” Sabrina chuckled. “And I thought, with an occasion like this one, you deserve to be dressed up.”
“Am I dead?” Alma asked.
“Not yet, and not if we have anything to do about it. Come, the others have been impatient to meet you!”
Piper: I was supposed to go on a trip that day. But intuition was telling me to come back home. Alas, it was too late by the time I came back. She was already cold.
Months later, I’ve discovered why that moron was so successful getting all the women to like him so much - he had a spell working for him. A spell that made the object of his affections always return them back. And the one who created the spell was none other that Romy Jinx.
Piper: I don’t know what made the scales finally fall from her eyes, but they did. She wouldn’t talk that day. I think she was regretting spending her time on that waste of space. In any case, I wish she did talk to me. I could’ve prevented what happened.
Piper: Sabrina was my only child and as we were always extremely close, she took after me in many aspects. One of them was her pickiness when it came to the men she spent time with. So it absolutely baffled me when she took up with a young man named Brady. He was the absolute opposite of everything she ever found attractive in men! Vain, materialistic, fake… And yet, Sabrina was absolutely taken with him and all of his flaws that I and her friends pointed out fell on deaf ears.
It was like she was bespelled. Of course, as a witch myself, I should have seen the signs. But I didn’t. Not until it was too late…
Even asking to go home is too much now. I’m a danger to humans and even my own kind. I truely believe it would be much better if I was dead… but no. It turns out humans are not as ignorant as I had beleived…
