A New Year. A New Conversation. Why I Wrote Sacred Not Sinful
Launch reflections for a new season of clarity
January always feels like an open door. A moment when the past loosens its grip and the future takes a tentative breath. Every year around this time, I ask myself the same question.
What conversation needs to happen now, not later
For me, this year, that conversation is about Black Greek Life, identity, and the stories people carry without ever checking if those stories are true. That is why I wrote Sacred Not Sinful.
I did not write it to argue. I did not write it to persuade. I wrote it because too many people were making life changing decisions based on second hand information and unchallenged fear.
When I was younger, I repeated things I had heard about BGLOs without ever studying them. I spoke with confidence but not with clarity. Everything changed when a brother from Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. challenged me to dig deeper.
He asked me to look at the history, the culture, the purpose, and the human stories behind the letters. Once I did, the entire picture shifted.
Sacred Not Sinful was born from that shift.
It is a book for students who feel torn. For parents who want answers without the panic. For alumni who love their letters but are tired of defending their humanity. For anyone who wants a conversation grounded in truth, not noise.
And to make this journey easier, I created a free companion resource, the Sacred Greeks Life App. You can download it at www.sacredgreekslife.com. It offers tools, reflections, and guided clarity for anyone navigating these conversations with an open mind.
January is a month of beginnings. So here is my beginning. My invitation to look again. To ask better questions. To study before assuming. To hear the full story before closing the book.
If there is one hope I have for this launch, it is this. May this book bring clarity where confusion used to live.
Reflection Question: What belief or story from your past deserves another look as you step into the new year
