The new year is already here, and it is time for us to reflect on the ups and downs of 2017, as well of setting potent intentions for 2018. This past year was very intense for me and many others, both on a personal, but also as a human race. The planet is urging us humans to evolve, but for that, it is forcing us to face our own negativity. That dark sickness we have is destroying our Mother Earth, so to face that we are forced to do efforts to purge it. The thing is, many don’t seem to even know that there’s self-work to do, they are trapped by their selfish ego/mind, so they’re actions still support suffering and destruction... So it is the job for those of us who are “awake” to any degree, to continue working on our own enlightenment, and in that way we can spread the light and Good word, by becoming a positive example to our friends and community. If we all become healers of each other, then we could actually heal this sickness in humanity and thus rescue our existence on this precious planet! Come on people, it’s not easy, but we can fucking do it! 2018 is our change to manifest the beginning of a new positive chapter for humanity, as well as cultivating peace in our own hearts. Be ok with sadness, be thankful for the happy moments, but always be in peace beneath it all. Let’s all unite in this sentiment and create a planet of Love, Peace, Unity, respect for nature and much Healing for every one of us! #newyearreflections #2018 #newyears #planet #enlightenment #peelingbodies #oneworld #unity #love #peace #awakening (at Plateau Mont-Royal)
New Year Reflections and a Thank You to the DadBuhay Community
As the year ends, I find myself slowing down. Looking back. Thinking about how far life has taken us. This year was not perfect. Some days were heavy. Some days were joyful. Most days were simply about showing up for family and doing our best. DadBuhay started as a small space to share real experiences. Life as a dad. Life abroad. Life while building a family far from home. I never expected so…
What I Learned About Starting Fresh From a Line of Brothers
Every New Year, people talk about resolutions. New habits. New routines. New versions of themselves. But I once watched a group of brothers prepare for a new year in a way that changed how I viewed the idea of starting fresh.
It was during a retreat with members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Everyone had their notebooks open. Some had plans written out. Some had goals taped to their pages. But the most powerful part of that meeting was the honesty.
Brothers shared what went well that year, what went wrong, and what they wanted to carry into the next season of their lives. No pretending. No performances. Just truth.
One brother said something that stayed with me for years.
“You do not grow by changing everything at once. You grow by changing one thing on purpose.”
That line followed me into every new year after that. It made me stop trying to overhaul my life every January and instead choose one meaningful shift I could actually commit to.
New Years always feels like a reset, but resets do not work without reflection. The older I get, the more I believe the new year is not about becoming someone different. It is about becoming someone truer.
Reflection Question: What is one small but meaningful change you want to carry into the new year

A new year doesn’t wipe the slate clean. It asks what you’re willing to carry forward with intention. I’m bringing the stories that still have something to say.
The start of a new year always brings with it a mix of emotions—hope, reflection, and even uncertainty. It’s a long road ahead, and not everyone made it into this new year with us. That thought alone can be sobering, a reminder of how fleeting life can be.
We’re often told that life is short, but sometimes it feels long and winding, full of endless twists and turns. Every day, we’re faced with constant choices—some big, some small, some that feel impossible to make. And yet, the beauty of it all lies in the truth that we *always* have a choice, even when it feels like we don’t. A choice to pause, to start again, to pivot, to let go, to hold on, or simply to keep going.
This year, I hope you allow yourself the grace to choose differently when needed. Life doesn’t always arrive in bursts of celebration or streams of confetti. Sometimes it’s quiet and monotonous, a slow march forward where the victory is just making it through the day. And that’s okay—there’s growth and resilience in those quiet moments too.
So, wish boldly for yourself and for others. Dream big, even in the midst of routine. Don’t let the monotony of life dishearten you. And above all, embrace the opportunities life gives you to change direction, to try again, to move forward—because there is power in simply continuing.
Here’s to a year of steady progress, moments of grace, and the courage to keep choosing your path. We’ve got a long road ahead, but one step at a time, we’ll get there.
