Matchmaker's Market Author: Sadan 撒旦君 2-color riso / 20 pages / 7.5 x 10.5" ISBN: 978-1-951078-01-0 Printed in Canada by Pindot Press, edition of 400 In this contemporary fable, a middle-aged man goes for a stroll in the park with his adult son, only a few inches tall, riding along in his bag. Written and illustrated by prolific Chinese cartoonist Sadan, this comic satirizes the custom of parent-arranged marriages. Sadan is a cartoonist and illustrator based in Yanjiao, China. He is the author of several books, including The Strange Tales of Liaozhai (聊斋漫记), Remarkable Sights of China (华夏异事录), Catalogue of Creatures (杂鱼集). Preorder here. [Image description: In the pages of this comic, the illustrations are in blue and the translated handwritten text is in purple. Sadan's illustration style is influenced by Chinese ink painting traditions, especially noticeable in the roughly shaded foliage visible in some panels.]
Though Sadan has already built up a significant body of work, his contribution to Naked Body will be one of his first works to be translated into English. Here as well, the hand lettering came out looking fantastic.
