What Have I Done? - M!A (Day 1)
Staring up at her wooden ceiling Esmeralda adjusted herself for the eighth time in her cot. She had been tossing and turning all night and slumber hadn't welcomed her. The flashes of her past had hit her more than usual. Screams, blood falling on the grass, the feeling of her mother's arms tugging at her waist as her father walked past, and she just couldn't bare it anymore. The walls of her cabin closed in on her and she couldn't breath. "Enough" she grunted as she threw herself out of bed and reached beneath her for a small bottle of rum that would accompany her. It was time to get out. Djali was asleep and she couldn't wait around for sleep to seduce her so, out of the Court of Miracles it was. Fortunately, most of The Court was hushed except for the few men standing outside of their cabins sharing a drink themselves before retreating to their homes, she was suprised she hadn't run into Clopin yet and was grateful She knew that he would've been filled with questions. Wondering where she was going, who she was with and when she would be back . The Court of Miracles gave a soft glow from the dim lit candles in people's homes and lanterns in the street, it was quite peaceful and exhaled softly, glad that she had left her home, even the place where she was most comfortable she had feared.
Gliding through the tunnel that lead her to the outside world she nodded at the night watch gypsies, giving her a small smile as she walked past, with their weapons and rope in hand. For a moment she swore she saw a the face of her mother behind a lantern's glow holding a weapon of her own, but shook the thought as soon as it hit her. The torturous voices and memories from her pat still flooded her mind.
The Paris air was so cold that Esmeralda gasped in shock. Feeling the heavy hands of her father leading her out of the tomb, she pulled her hand away and the sensation disappeared gripping the bottle tightly as she took her first swig. Drinking was something she did recreationally with her friends, but when her memories hit her this hard, she always kept a bottle to herself to numb her to sleep. It was foolproof every time. Walking through the cemetery the far end had presented her a small river and a rock standing alone, inviting her to have a seat.
She heard a small jingle of bangles from the back of her mind as she brought the bottle to her lips for a second time.
"What are you doing ma petit fleur?" she heard her mother ask.
"Leave me" she spat taking another harsh gulp of rum and kicked at the grass.
"Just leave me"
