Tell me something about something

so ive always liked snakes, right. adored them, and when i was a kid in a post-war country the zoo wasnt rly a thing or a priority, and a reptile house was incomprehensible. but when i was a kid, before i started primary school so this mightve been '99 or so, a snake exhibition came to my little hometown. my mom and grandma and grandpa all refused to go, and my sister was a baby, so my dad took just me there bcs i loved snakes.

it was in this building in the city centre and on the day we were there there werent that many people. the crown of the exhibition was this yellow-white python that was huuuge to litlle baby me, and tbh also huge in general, but it was mostly sleeping when we were there. it was housed in this glass cage and i spent ages trying to make it do something while it ignored me. it was so beautiful i was in fucking love.

nevertheless, i had a blast obvs, and me and my dad were alone in the room with the python and i only remember laughing a lot and i was walking backwards and i smashed into the glass cage.

the lid shifted.

the python shot up, its snout peeking through the little crack.

my reaction: "oh my god 😍 its awake😍"

my dad's reaction: "oh my fucking god😨 its awake😨"

anyways he grabbed me and dragged me away, people in charge of snakes ran in, there was a whole mess of people screaming and panic. they closed the exhibition for that day and a couple more until the situation was dealt with. my dad didnt even tell my mom what happened till ages later, and for the rest of his life he'd randomly go, "hey, remember when you almost unleashed a python onto the unsuspecting town folk that one time you were six? i thought i was going to have to wrestle a snake for a moment there". he never let me live it down

and that's the story of how i almost released a python upon my city when i was a child 🥰🐍
