SafARI 2016
Presented across multiple venues in March 11-26, 2016
Co-curator, 2014-2015
SafARI 2016 showcased the work of 27 emerging and unrepresented artists from around Australia working across the full spectrum of contemporary multi-disciplinary practice, spanning sound, text- based, digital/online, and performance.
SafARI was founded by Lisa Corsi in 2004, and while it presented in a festival format, it operated as an artist-run initiative without a venue. The 2016 edition marked the final incarnation and presentation of the multi-disciplinary operation. SafARI 2016′s partner venues were Alaska Projects (Elizabeth Bay), Cross Art Projects (Potts Point), and Minerva (Potts Point); with Runway Magazine as an official online venue (http://runway.org.au/archive/30-ecologies/) and Kudos Gallery, Paddington.
The official SafARI website is now defunct and no longer able to be viewed online. Artist Benjamin Forster worked with SafARI to create a dynamic digital platform that housed artwork online. SafARI also worked with FBi, Kudos, Young Henrys and Chaffey Brothers Wine Co.
SafARI 2016 presented as a series of exhibitions that included live performance, online content/intervention, a writing program (for text-based works), a publication and a fundraiser. SafARI 2016 also created merchandise :)

SafARI is the unofficial fringe exhibition to the Biennale of Sydney, which showcases the work of emerging and unrepresented Australian artists. It is a ‘zeitgeist’ driven festival timed to coincide with the crucial first opening weeks of the Biennale of Sydney. Since 2004, SafARI has maintained a direct link with ARIs and other independent creative practitioners across Australia.
