Riana couldn’t believe her eyes. Standing in front of the door was her boyfriend Sage. It’s almost been a year since she saw him in person. Everyone in the building yelled and cheered as she ran as fast as she could in his arms.

As soon as she got to be his in arms, Sage left her up for the deepest kiss. It seemed like time stopped and the only people in the world were them. They both wanted to savor the kiss as long as they could.

Sage slowly put Riana down and then kissed her hand. “May I have this dance?” Riana nodded and Sage walked her to the dance floor. The DJ started the song over and Riana and Sage started to slow dance.

“I can’t believe you’re in front of me right now. How long are you staying here?” Riana asked as they swayed back and forth.

“Just for tonight. I have to catch the flight back tomorrow afternoon.”

Riana started to pout. “Awe man.”

“Hey, don’t make that face. I promise I’ll be back soon. Let’s not talk about the future, let’s talk about the now. You have me to yourself all night, your majesty.”

Riana smiled. “I love you.”

“I love you more.” Sage said before kissing her again.

The two of them spent the rest of their night dancing and making memories with each other.

Snowflake Day has come and gone and it is finally New Year Eve. It seems like winter break has been moving so fast for Riana. Especially since she didn’t really do anything except for FaceTiming her boyfriend Sage. Honestly she wouldn’t want to spend her winter break any other way though. She loved every FaceTime call that she has been on with Sage.

Tonight's FaceTime call has already been an hour long but it even seems like that. Sage joked with Riana. “Are you the only person that doesn’t have plans tonight at your house? Your house sounds so quiet.”

Riana giggled. “I think so.”

“You can’t be that lame.” Sage teased Riana. “Go out and do something tonight.”

“The only thing I want to do is be in your arms and kiss you. That’s it.”

Sage chuckled. “Same babe. Soon I’ll be hugging you tight.”

“I can’t wait until that day comes.” Just then Riana heard someone yelling on Sage’s side.

“Lights out!”

Sage sighed. “I have to go. I love you. Happy new year!”

Riana blew a kiss. “I love you too. Happy new year!” Riana ended the FaceTime call now trying to figure out what to do now.

Riana answered the FaceTime on her MacBook so that Jordy and Brina can see Sage.

As soon as Sage answered, Jordy and Brina screamed. “Hey Sage!” Riana giggled and waved.

Sage bursted out laughing. “Hey to you too. Long time no see.”

“Well yea, you don’t call anybody but Riana.” Jordy rolled his eyes.

“That’s not true. I call my family too. You know what, I’m sorry Jo. I’ll call you more.”

Jordy laughed. “Don’t worry about it. I know you got a lot going on.”

“Speaking of a lot going on, we should let these two talk.” Brina started to push Jordy towards the kitchen. “It was nice seeing you Sage.”

“It was nice seeing you guys too.” Sage chuckled. Once Jordy and Brina left the room, Sage focus all his attention on Riana. “So how are you beautiful?”

Riana blushed. “I’m good. I’m just applying to colleges and helping Jordy study for SATs and ACTs.”

“Do you know what college you want to go to?”

“Yea. Bridgeport University. They had the best art program.”

“I like that. You’ll still be in Bridgeport when I come home.”

“Of course. I won’t go too far from you.” Riana smiled.

Sage smiled back. “I just wanted to call you on my break. I have to go back to work.”

“I knew that was coming.”

Sage sighed. “I’m sorry babe.”

“It’s fine. It’s what we signed up for. I love you.”

“I love you too babe.”

Sage knew that saying goodbye to his girlfriend Riana would be the worst. More worse than saying goodbye to his family and friends. Just when things were starting to get good between Riana and Sage, he had to leave.

Sage hugged Riana tight and didn’t want to let her go.

“Can’t believe we’re not going to spend our summer together. I knew it was going to be hard but not this hard.” Riana said while still being in Sage’s arms.

Sage sighed. “I know. I’m going to miss you so much.”

“I’m going to miss you too. Are you sure long distance is going to work between us two?” Riana said looking into Sage’s eyes.

“Of course. I’m going to make it work. I’m going to call you every night and text you ever chance I get. Now that I have you, I’m not letting you go so easily. I love you Riana.”

Riana smiled. “I love you too.” Just then, Sage’s commander started calling everyone to come on. “Please be safe.”

“Will do.” Sage said before passionately kissing Riana goodbye.

After all the pictures and celebrations, Sage finally had some free time to himself. He told his friends and family he was going to get something to eat before going back home which was a lie. He was happy that everyone was happy that he graduated but he was feeling a bit overwhelmed. He only knew of one place where he would feel at ease.

Sage walked through the graveyard until he found his father’s grave. “Hey dad.” Sage said as he looked at the grave. “I’m finally out of school. I finally feel like my life can officially start.”

Sage sat next to his father’s grave. “I hope you’re proud of me. I know some people might just say “it’s just high school, try college.” but I’m still proud of myself. I know what I want to do with my life. I’m going to enlist in the army. Mom is terrified but I feel like it’s kind of the only way to pay off her loans and Dean loans as well. I honestly just want to make sure they are okay and not in debt. I also hope to save money for myself also.” Sage sighed. “I hope this is a great idea to do dad. I wished you were here to guide me. I love you and miss you dad.”

Sage sat there in silence, enjoying the weather and thinking if he really wanted to be in the army.

After taking all the pictures and saluting to everyone he needed to in the army, Sage had to say goodbye to everyone. Even though he knew everyone was going to be sad, he knew he had to be strong for everyone. He looked into his mother’s eyes and could see the tears were coming. He looked at the ground trying to avoid eye contact. “This is it, huh?”

His stepfather, Dean nodded. “Yea, this is it.”

“You’re going to be great.” His little sister, Ezlyn smiled trying to be positive.

“I can’t believe you’re leaving.” His mom, Loren said while her voice cracked. Dean and Ezlyn could tell that Loren was about to cry. They both comfort her.

Sage sighed. “Mom-“

Loren cut him off. “Just promise me one thing. You come back home.”

“I promise.” Sage nodded

“Group hug.” Dean said which made everyone laughed. Dean and Loren hugged Sage together.

“Group hugs are lame.” Ezlyn joked.

Sage chuckled. “Well how about just a sibling hugged.”

Ezlyn giggled before hugging him tight. “I’m going to missed you big head.”

“I’m going to miss you too.” He said before ending their hugged. Sage waved bye to his family one last time before they left. Now it was only one person he had to say goodbye to.
