what the f do you believe?
if you've read my previous post, this is round two. the first night, a snitch came out so the piece was down within minutes. but in the words of aaliyah (RIP), "if at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again." BUK!
so we went 4x bigger. reprinted the tiger eyes and then 3 more. i couldn't have done this without my cousins. the four of us zoomed from wall to wall on our scooters. i put extra sugar in the glue this time so that shit was hella tacky. i thought ants were gona start crawling all over my arms and legs.
street art culture hasn't reached hanoi yet, so most people haven't seen anything like this before. what i noticed from tonight's outing is that because street art is a brand new concept to hanoi, there is no connotation or social value assigned to street art yet. in the u.s., it's associated with hooded hooligans, illegality and vandalism--"sketchy" stuff, my friend. but culturally, hanoians have assigned nothing to it yet, they're still trying to understand it. everyone thought we were trying to advertise something. we got permission from two people, and they were pretty nonchalant about it (didn't quite understand why we wanted to do it). everyone else around us were either entertained or didn't care. at one spot, a grandma was kicking it with us and told us that the person who lived behind the wall died, so we could cover the windows. LOL.
today's message is: everything is relative, cultural contexts change meaning, there is no definition, just perception,
so what the f do you believe?
love, s
