The Battle: Part 5

Her voice was stolen from her as she fought.
Words took up too much energy, hid too many feelings. All she needed was battle lust and desperation.
Ducking swiftly to the side, she leapt across the rubble of buildings that had once stood high and mighty.
Now they were nothing but dust.
The seven of them had destroyed the city of Valon Taivas. There was not enough regret in Rina, not enough at all.
In wrecking the city, they had saved the kingdom.
Sacrifices took time to understand.
She slunk towards the Vaka sniping at her from behind a slanting column of marble and silver, keeping her breathing steady despite the blood dripping down her face and legs.
A shudder passed through her body as a bolt of ice cold burnt through her tunic, pain freezing her in her steps.
A throb of fear went through her as she realized the danger she was facing. The Vaka in front of her, Jian, was a renowned archer, and he would not hesitate to kill. Calm, deadly, someone who would not waste words
She held a short range weapon in her arms. Most warriors against Jian would’ve begged for her life.
But Sahrina Levian was better than that.
Even before she rose to her guardian status, she had been stronger. Abuse and harsh words had long ago failed to harm her.
She took a steady breath, her shaking hands tightening around the spear, as she sprinted towards him, her eyes shining as chunks of gray rubble rose up and flung themselves at him.
Jian ducked and rolled out of the way, easily nocking another arrow and another, shooting each one in rapid succession again and again. Gritting her teeth, she dropped her spear.
Her blood-stained hands shone with light, as bolts of emerald shot towards him again and again.
He glared at her coldly, adjusting his grip on his bow, then nocked three arrows at once, gleaming a deadly silver.
If Ella was here, she could have blinded him.
If Nato was here, he could have caused him to miss every time.
But they were fighting for their lives, and she had to do her part.
If she could just get close enough. She flicked her wrist, sending a thousand pieces of rubble his way. As he dodged, his face twisted in focus, she sprinted towards him, slamming him down onto the ground.
He grabbed her arm, twisting her wrist painfully. She bit back a scream, blood filling her mouth as he broke it with a single blow.
She slapped a hand onto his mouth, her eyes glowing eerily. Tried to slam her spear through his throat with her injured hand, her eyes watering, as she missed.
Poison green light wrapped around her like a halo for a second, then winked out with as she bent her head to his ear, blood dripping from her face to his.
“Silence,” she said, breathing hard as he slumped to the ground, his eyes bulging out, then fluttering shut.
He lay still.
And without a second thought, she grabbed her spear and stabbed it through his throat, the feeling of the stone tearing through bone and cartilage sending up a shudder through her.
The taking of another life never got easier.
Even after so many centuries she had yet to become numb.
Wearily, she turned towards the sounds of battle from around the city, slowly reaching for the silver necklace that wrapped around her throat like a noose.
Only to find that it was no longer there, the winking emerald lost in the dust.
