First post of the Year 2025! Let it ... be a great one! Bye!
I’m more than two years late on this one but I guess better late than never? At least eventually the zodiacs will roll back around again in about 10 more years. I had a hard time coming up with a design for the year of the dog when I started two years ago, and got a lot of inspiration and a crash course in Japanese new year’s from one of the student interns at my school. Thanks to her I learned a lot more obscure (to non-Japanese eyes) new year’s culture and an interesting way of connecting the culture and zodiac in my annual New Year’s card. The two main Japanese dog breeds are the shiba and the akita, and since shibas are the better known of the two, I chose to go with that. I also included some traditional New Year’s artifacts like the giant shrine bell presented as a the dog’s ball, and a special rope called ‘shimenawa’ as the dog’s collar. People often go to shrines right at midnight on January first to do their first prayers of the new year, ringing a bell attached to a rope that calls on/wakes up the gods to listen to their prayer. The shimenawa is a special rope woven from rice straw. It marks a boundary between our world and the world of the gods. It’s usually hung on front doors during the New Year season to welcome the gods and keep out the evil. Tell me something you know about Japanese new year, or something you’d like to know! . . . . .

Day 2 of Engeki Haikyuu Summer Week!
Today’s viewing of “The View from the Top” was hosted by Justin, Ryoutarou, Sonde, and Judai! Although not hosting, several other Haikyuu cast members went to go see the event including Kenta, and (see above) Kousuke, Kaito, Kouta, and Mart-san!

Engeki Haikyuu Summer Week ~The View from the Top~ Since I went to the trouble of attending the showing, here’s my Reflection Corner!! The rerun was pretty difficult... I remember we were trying to be so careful about keeping the same level of intensity. Yesterday I watched the first show and then its rerun, and although I already knew that there were differences between them, I came to realize that the little details in the rerun really did change. Since we were given the chance to rerun the show, we thought we had to show the areas where we improved. It was only natural that we’d change some things. For me personally, the areas I paid attention to were
Making sure that I lowered my center of gravity whenever I stood with my legs far apart
Whenever possible, making my voice higher (it’s only a little thing lol)
Adding variation to my emotions when expressing happiness
To expand a little bit... I was super aware of my center of gravity because I think it’s a Hinata-esque way of being cool! When it comes to the volleyball scenes, the thing we were able to do in the re-run was to really show off the Engeki Haikyuu style of expression volleyball on-stage. I think we were able to pull it off better in the rerun. I think it felt more like a real match, and each part was a little more polished. For my voice and emotional variation... Actually I think I tried a little too hard with them in the first show, so I was rearranging the parts I didn’t like. That’s how I came up with that bit of homework. Instead of always being at 100% when happy, coming up with ways to express happiness at 80% or at 120% was actually fun. I think people will definitely laugh at the part after the 3-on-3 match when Sugawara says, “What the heck was that?” Try to pay attention to that, ok?
