It was another night on the night shift at the Prisma hotel for Saikuri the Amaura, the advantage of being on the night shift was the relative quietness of the place, crazy things were much less likely to happen, or so she thought when she took the night shift. At first, nothing out of the ordinary, a peaceful silence until some ghost Pokemon decided to knock over the signs for fun, some even had the audacity to knock over the flower pots and break them, a mess that she and her companions had to clean up, then there were the "small" night emergencies, it didn't happen more than twice but they are things she prefers not to talk about.
They were also rarely surprised by criminals who broke into the place in order to steal their daily earnings, the first time was very hard for her, but eventually she learned to think rationally in those types of situations like her companions, her partner on duty, Kuyor the Honchkrow, was the one who helped her the most from day one, they quickly became friends despite the fact that he had a bit of a bad reputation, mostly because of him being a dark type.
Her other partner on duty was Aya the Rowlet, she was pretty quiet but Saikuri considered her a nice companion to work with, despite being her closest friend she passed unnoticed, it would be like that until that night.
It happened really fast, two unidentified hooded Pokemon burst into the place, both bipedal judging by their gait, they almost took Kuyor by force while insistently asking for his son, Aya tried to fight them off while Saikuri hurried to pull the alarm lever, all she could hear were struggles and suddenly a sharp bang with a squawk, the alarm was on and ringing, but all noise was muffled as soon as she set her eyes back to the scene.
Kuyor lay on the ground and was evidently no longer with them in this world, it was impossible for him to resist a large and deep cut, Aya managed to free herself but her left wing was broken, both strangers left the place before the guards could arrive.
It's been two months since that incident, Aya's wing was almost recovering and the investigation team's progress was little to nothing and Kuyor's place was quickly taked by a new employee, a Hoothoot. It was evident that Saikuri was the only one demanding justice for her shift partner, but her voice was hardly heard, shortly after, Aya began to distribute resumes, she planned to quit.
Not that Saikuri could blame her, but it sucked for her, not only she lost a friend but also her other friend was leaving. Eventually, Aya's last day in as part of the staff in the hotel.
Aya gathered her things and went to Saikuri awkwardly —Hey, uhm.
—I know, your last day —Saikuri interrumped her.
The Rowlet nodded —Yeah, but I wanted to tell you something, it's... sorta about Kuyor.
That caught Saikuri's attention —What is it? They finally identified his murderers!?
Aya shook her head —No no, is... His son, you may remember they mentioned him, right?
—Yes.
She fridgeted a bit —Well... I heard that his son was notified about his father's death almost three weeks later.
—Almost...! —Saikuri trailed off, did she heard it right? Three weeks? That's a month!
—Apparently he went to train to another region and when came back they gave him the news —Aya continued —I don't know so much about how exactly it went, that's all I heard and... I thought you'd want to know.
There was pause, Saikuri was deep in thought, if it was a water or fairy type then there would even be a strike demanding justice, but this was not the case with Kuyor, they simply did not care and very few Pokemon knew what happened here, but even so they were very silent about it.
—Well, that's it —Aya said awkwardly —I... I have to go, farewell.
With that, the Rowlet set off flying out of the hotel through the nearest window disappearing into the sky that lights up with the rising sun leaving Saikuri standing there, she just kept looking at the floor beneath her feets, the air around her turned colder and a little frost sprouted on the wooden floor, her expression was not visible but it was evident that she was beyond upset.
