Photo I took aboard the USS Constitution during her underway for Boston Ship Parade. Sail ho!!!

A few of the salutes being fired produced these beautiful smoke rings and I managed to catch one (and a faintly visible second one?) Omg lads. Cannon fire sounds like a really loud drum beat and I could feel it all the way up my spine and into my chest. Strangely not as loud as I imagined but the first one in the salute always startles me even if I brace for it. The sound bouncing back from the nearby buildings in the harbor made it sound like what I imagine warfare sounds like.

I WENT ON AN ADVENTURE TODAAAAAAAAY

Seaport's Pier 5 is host to the Amerigo Vespucci and ARA Libertad during Sail Boston; my original plan had been to visit the Amerigo Vespucci specifically, buuuuut her visiting hours did not begin until 2PM and the line was enormous by 1:45PM when I arrived. As it was hot as fuck and I did have a minor time crunch, I decided against trying my line luck, and instead checked out the Libertad and meandered the pier to take pictures.

I took way more than I'm posting (so many rigging shots). And pictures do not do the Amerigo Vespucci justice, she is utterly gooooooorgeous in person! The Libertad is no slouch herself, she just has the misfortune to be berthed next to the prettiest ship in Boston right now.

The Amerigo Vespucci is leaving tomorrow, but Libertad and many of the other ships participating in Sail Boston will still be open to visitors through Wednesday, July 15! If you're in town, head down to the harbor and visit the tall ships!

Today was the Parade of Sails for the Tall Ships in Boston. It was a fun event and neat to see all the ships from all over the world come to our harbor. I got a great vantage point of them turning around as well!

Most people are familiar with Ebisu-sama, the kami most commonly associated with fishermen, and the bounties of the sea. But I think fewer folks are familiar with a kami known as Tori-no-Iwakusufune no Kami 鳥之石楠船神, also known as Ame-no-Torifune no Kami 天鳥船神, was born to Izanagi no Kami and Izanami no Kami as the kami of ships. Their story varies between the Kojiki and Nihongi, being a messenger sent with Takemikazuchi no Kami to ensure the land was handed over to the Amatsukami (Kojiki), or the boat that Hiruko-sama was set adrift in (Nihongi). [x]. According to one blog, their divine virtues encompass seafaring, transportation, messengers, and express deliveries. [x] Some shrines for this kami include: Funatama Shrine (Osaka), Kotohira Ōtori Shrine (Yokohama), and Shiokama Shrine (Akita). [x]

Figured it would be fun to talk about a kami of boats while celebrating big boats coming to Boston.

A great way to end off one of the best weeks of my life. I am still trying to find the words of what the last few days have ment to me, and rest assured, they will be shared at some point.

But for now, my soul is so full of joy for the ships that were sailed, and the shipmates reunited.
