Club Weekend Cruise
Sailors NYC Members have the privilege of going on a Weekend Cruise outside of the New York Harbor. Aside from being a lot of fun, it’s also a great way to learn and exercise cruise planning and execution. Starting this year, a Weekend Cruise is also offered to NauticEd students who are looking to get assessed on their skills during this weekend (see pricing on our website).
The club holds several Weekend Cruises throughout the sailing season. A month in advance of a Weekend Cruise, members who are interested may attend a prep meeting. In the prep meeting, we review and discuss considerations that can influence our Weekend Cruise; we go over nautical charts as well as tide and current tables that is a key factor in determining the destination, and talk through everyone’s ideas and opinions. Typically we pick a destination that is at a radius of up to 40 nautical miles out of Liberty Harbor Marina (6-10 hour cruising time). Once destination is chosen we construct a rough itinerary and assign different preparatory roles to the participants, ranging from: navigation, provisioning the boat, researching local attractions at our sailing destination, and several others.
While on the Weekend Cruise itself, participants can exercise different positions on the boat: helm, trimming, navigation and entertainment :-) In addition to exploring new horizons, the Weekend Cruise is a great way to get to know other crew members and create great new memories that will remain for years to come...
