genuinely though. silver makes me insane. in trying to escape a narrative he doomed himself to a narrative he created. he tries so hard to be no one from nothing, just a man trading secrets for quick money and an out, and he winds up king. he winds up the only man flint ever feared. the man who flint came to love. the man who ground a war to a stop and has to live with that for the rest of his life.
important note that madi and max alternate mondays. this doesn’t actually have any real life effects but it makes me happy.
wait let me make a sails week. max monday t’gallant tuesday whale wednesday tits tits fruit fruit thursday flint friday silver saturday shore leave sunday. flint and silver are right next to each other so they can hold hands while on shore leave :)
i know like objectively the opposite of selflessness from a linguistic standpoint is selfishness but like. every time i think about black sails i’m like. okay it doesn’t work though it doesn’t fucking work!!!!! like. yes flint is being selfish from one point of view for his fight and willingness to sacrifice EVERYTHING and everyone for his war but. on the other hand!!!!! he’s not doing it necessarily because of his own. punishments? experiences? i can’t word it properly but like. yes he believes the way he was treated is wrong (though he still has shame relating to it) BUT!!! if it were just him i think he would have been able to move past it (not putting any judgement on this i just think that’s how it would have fallen if it were just him who was punished) BUT!!!!!!!! because thomas was practically destroyed and his cause torn to shreds and his dignity ground beneath the heels of his father, of those running the asylum, and so forth—flint couldn’t forgive that. perhaps specifically because thomas may have been able to, flint was willing to play the role of fury, of vengeance, not for himself, but necessarily for someone who would not do so necessarily, because he was DEAD (as far as flint knew). like. god i can’t word this right but. it’s like möbius strip. it’s selfishness looping to selflessness looping to selfishness looping to selflessness. it’s both a clear line and a nonexistent one.
flint as someone so plagued by expectations and the assumptions of others vs silver. yeah.
Flint was truly out of his mind to try to steal that catche like.. in the prev eps in s3 in s4 you could tell how important Silver is to him. how he could barely give him the news about Madi. the self recognition he had in his grief, that Silver is his only one emotional connection left, and he still did it like.. this is truly what grief does to a mf
asdf not Silver and Flint having a shouting match totally audible from outsite the cabin
