"Puzzle" - mixed media /-/-/-/-/ I've been worried about posting again because I don't want to feel like business as usual, especially when I want to support the black lives matter protests and help out where I can. I've always been inclined to process difficult emotions and difficult topics offline, which is part of the reason I haven't really talked about my abysmal Mental Health since the start of the pandemic (anxiety is a medical condition and it's very unhelpful). The problem is I think that translates through social media to seeming like I'm not acknowledging the sheer scope of what's going on right now, especially when my work doesn't contain direct political commentary (the case can be made that all work is political but that is probably going to take longer than Instagram post to unpack). I'm still working out in which ways I'd be most helpful to the movement, and what kind of action would be sustainable for me in the long term - along with trying to find a balance between that need and the need to be able to sell my work since this is now my day job. When your social media becomes connected with your ability to make rent I think I can see why a lot of people don't engage in social movements, even when there is a moral imperative to engage and help. But I don't want that to become an excuse to disengage, since *not* helping doesn't fix the problem, nor aid people. So I'm going to be working out a balance, and hopefully helping far more than I faceplant. #collage #collageart #musings #art #robots #robotsaints #saint #sainticons #trashart #foil #activism (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBf7ub4BkDm/?igshid=1mqvo3j6qljh3
