We all love Dragon Ball and the original story that was penned by Akira Toriyama from 1984- 1995, or even DBGT, Kai, DBS, etc etc . However, the one mistake that Akira Toriyama made while creating the original story for Dragon Ball was the option of getting rid of Son Goku’s tail during the 23rd Budokai arc.
Ever since the start of the Dragon Ball series, Son Goku was always known as the strong boy with a monkey tail, it was basically a defining trait of his that separated him from other characters in the story and was an icon of Goku’s that everyone would identify him with and what made Goku unique.
It’s sad to see something that was once such an iconic part of a character that we love so much, reduced to nothing more than, as casual fans would put it, “That thing Goku had as a kid”. It’s heartbreaking sometimes just seeing that one of the staples of Goku’s design has been reduced to this and with no reason that the fact that Toriyama just didn’t want to draw it anymore (even though he drew it on Gohan for a few chapters more, and even then he still drew villains such as Freeza and Cell with tails.)
I’ve talked to alot of people about this subject and they all agree with me that Goku should have kept his tail to keep that unique trait of his, and one of the many things that GT gave us was exactly what people wanted... Goku with his tail all grown up, even if it was a small glance.
I send this question to the rest of you. Should Toriyama have kept Goku’s tail when entering adulthood or do you find it was a good idea to get rid of it and just keep moving forward?
