Shunsui still did not have the perfect gift. He figured he would have one sometime tomorrow-- hopefully. A soft breath escaped his lips as he knocked first on the captain's door before sliding it open. Moments later his head poked in curiously, unsure if Ukitake was present. So far so good, he observed. Without much of another effort, he placed the small present next to the door's opening. It moved, and there was the faintest barking heard. Quickly escaping, he hoped this sufficed for now.
Juushiro, having not been feeling too well, as per usual for him, if he were being quiet honest with himself, wandered into living room area. He'd heard a noise and--
Was that a present?
A smile curved his lips and he sat down next to the small box. Long, slender fingers picked at the wrapping, simple as it was. The box shook and his green eyes widened, picking up his pace.
Once the box was open, a pup popped its head out of the box and Juushiro gave a squeal of delight. He reached inside and gathers the puppy into his arms.
"Oh my, aren't you just adorable? It looks like Fufu's going to have a little sibling." He cooed at the pup and stroked his fingers over its little, soft head. The puppy gave a bark in response, giving a lick of Juushiro's noise as he laughed.
There was only one person who would get him a puppy, and he'd be sure to thank him later.
Shunpo would have been more efficient, but there was a certain satisfaction in a successful sneak. Tip-toeing away from the older captain's office, he pulled the door to a slow and careful shut. Within the office, there had been a small table propped up in the near center with a basket of, perhaps, dozens of chichibu beni adonis flowers. In front of the basket lay a note, folded in the center into a firm crease with the words inside, "Thank you for everything, Yamajii."
Yamamoto returned to his workplace fully aware of the fact that it had been intruded upon. Faint traces of reiatsu remained hung flimsily in the air as he pushed the door open and entered the dimmed out room. Had he arrived sooner he could easily have picked up upon just who the scraps of spiritual energy that lightly clutched to the particles around him belonged to, but as matters stood they were too weak to trace accurately.
As he padded through the area he could feel that nobody was left, whoever had decided to infiltrate his office had clearly already taken their leave. The wizened old man made his way directly to the basket of flowers after switching a light on, picked up the folded paper with fragile-looking hands and turned it over several times in his palms. Carefully, the note was refolded and he placed it into one of the pockets of his haori, and a faint, fond smile tugged at the side of his lips. By the following morning the basket had been removed, the flowers placed into thin, tall vases and left on the shelf behind his desk, save for one, which he had pressed and put into a small, light frame that rested above the entrance to the room. He never spoke of the matter, not even to Retsu or Jushiro, but he hoped that Shunsui would know of the immense pride his felt his father felt for the man he had grown to be.

Violet eyes narrowed at the sight of the Gotei Thirteen Captain, "Kyouraku-taicho. Is there a reason you are here?"
"Did you put it in yet?~"
"Put what in?"

It was way past noon and Nanao was wondering if her captain was going to show up in the office at all. Usually he stumbled in around 10 am and slept on the couch for few hours. It was his everyday routine and breaking it was pretty unusual. She glanced at the clock again. She wasn't going to ever admit it, but she was worried. Quickly stacking forms in their folders she walked out of 8th division office. She searched his usual napping spots but he couldn't be found anywhere, which was quite distressing. She sat under the nearby tree to catch a breath, when tall figure approached her.
