Haugst Isle.
If it was true that most places had seen better days, then this island was an exception to the rule. Dilapidated buildings and dirty side-paths took up most of her view, littered with broken glasses, wood-chips, and the occasional broken bone. Most of them were too large to have come from any birds or fish Nanami was familiar with. What little wilderness that existed on the outskirts was like a twisted parody of a forest- thorn-covered trees, cracked ground without a hint of grass, and a deafening silence that hung in the air.
If thee was anything that disappointed Nanami the most since her arrival here, it was that it was too quiet. No signs of the GPU or anyone tied to the older man on the phone. She had come here to seek answers (along with tearing out a few throats) and so far there were no signs of life that hinted at either party having been on Haugst recently. She let out her umpteenth yawn for the past hour, wishing that something would jump out at her.
She soon received her wish, though it was more along the lines of something shooting past her. Her family’s heightened sense of awareness would have clued her in faster, so Nanami had to settle for jumping back suddenly at the sight of two objects soaring through the air- one was the remains of a sort of door. The other was... well, Nanami hadn’t seen any animal like it before, the thing crashing to the ground in a smoking heap. No animal she was familiar with had such twisted limbs or was covered in jagged shards of metal. And from where she stood, she could vaguely make out a shape that bore too close the resemblance to a man.
Her eyes left the creature- she could make out scent wafting from it that smelled like rotten flesh -and faced the direction it had been propelled from. There was a gaping hole in the ground, a small series of metallic steps leading down into it. Before the idea of where the tunnel led could cross her mind, a head of yellow and greenish hair entered her view. Following its ascension up the stairs was an equally familiar white coat and pink, slug-like creature... along with many rasping snarls and growls from further below.
“...Dune?“
