WISDOM•Tryna look cool in front of The Big Fish aka The Salmon of Knowledge of 10m (32ft) was commissioned in 1999 to celebrate the regeneration of the River Lagan and the historic importance of the site which celebrates the return of fish to the River Lagan. The most interesting thing about this fish are its beautiful blue scales made up of ceramic tiles describing different scenes from the city's history which tells the story of Belfast. • Artist: John Kindness • Salmon is a symbol of rebirth, moving, happiness, eternal life and femininity and represents infinite wisdom and knowledge through life. • Salmon has a long history in Irish culture where it is sometimes identified with Fintan mac Bóchra, who was known as "The Wise" and was once transformed into a salmon. • Irish legend where Salmon story figures in The Boyhood Deeds of Fionn, which narrates the early adventures of Fionn MacCumhaill when he first came to prominence after catching and eating the Salmon of Knowledge gaining all the knowledge of the world.
