Day 1 - Warm Up
Salnave
I will be following @mothscotch 's offtober challenge very losely. My drawings won't be really related to OFF aside from the black&white/grayscale color pallet. I hope they don't mind but alot of the days on their list really interested me over other lists I've seen. 👉👈
Day 3 - Smile
Salnave and his comrade Yang.
Yang doesn't smile much but he'll often do it when sparring with Salnave.

Bertin Depestre Salnave 🌴🇭🇹(nicknamed FLUSKY) is a well known Haitian musician who played the saxophone, the clarinet, and the flute. He was born in Haiti in 1895 and died in 1987. Haiti's First National Palace A reported total of four residences built for the country's rulers, whether the colonial governor general, emperor, or president, have occupied the site since the mid to late 18th century. The earliest structure was the Government Palace (Palais du Gouvernement), which was constructed in the 18th century as the residence of the French governor general of Saint-Domingue. Its first Haitian inhabitant was the country's first president, Alexandre Pétion. By 1850 the former governor general's residence had become known as the Imperial Palace, since it was the residence of Emperor Faustin I of Haiti and his wife, Empress Adélina. The former Imperial Palace was destroyed on 19 December 1869 during a rebel revolt that brought down the government of President Sylvain Salnave. The building was bombarded during the conflict by the man-of-war La Terreur, a government warship that had been captured by the rebel forces. As a contemporary report stated, "It appeared that Salnave had stowed away in vaults at the Palace a large quantity of ammunition. The shells fired from the Terreur, penetrating these vaults, caused several terrific explosions, and the palace was wholly destroyed". #haiti #national #palace #president #salnave
President Sylvain Salnave, The first socialist leader in the Caribbean. Described as an anti-bourgeois, Salnave leads a harsh policy toward the wealthy, imposing taxes intended to improve the lives of the population and asking traders to bring down the pricesof the products of first necessity. The bourgeoisie is revolting. Salnave ordered to build state stores in Haiti, which still exist today. #haiti #president #1860s #salnave #sylvain haitian
What makes me so proud to say "I AM HAITIAN" is our history. Time and time again despite its tumultuous past, Haiti will always be the symbol of greatness and humanity! No one can ever strip our legacy. It's a story that is not only shared by Haitian's but Haiti is a symbol of true liberty through out the world. America knows this best since we assist them and many other countries in their quest for freedom! There was once a time that I hid my identity because the image of Haiti was so bad, once I empowered myself with knowledge of who I am and where my ancestors came from, there was no longer a question of my Haitian identity but more the yearning question of how can I take part in the next revolution. I've decided to do so with the Arts! Happy Flag Day Ayiti!
