been listening to and watching a lot of salome stagings, thinking about how I would personally interpret it in comic form. given the very voyeurist nature of the play, i considered a lot of neglected-in-text angles, like instead of the dance, the scene opens with her handmaidens waiting and watching her as it finishes; we usually never see Jokanaan imprisoned, and a large tenant of his character is his steadfast, stoic faith, but a cut to him hearing that he will be killed reminds us that he is human. i would cut a lot of the back and forth and really only go from the dance to the end, as admittedly that is just what interests me most. no explanation of why theres the dead body of the guard laying around. most of my other doodles are just ideas of how i would frame specific moments and words, with dramatic shading. most of all, dread.
