#satchelreadingupdate about recent family sagas that are published and the importance of blurbs. - - Both Homegoing and Salt Houses are family sagas intertwined with historical aspects. Homegoing was exactly what I anticipated from it’s blurb- history unfolding through personal experiences and stories. So we have more personal stories and the history of slavery is like a background music to the book. Whereas in case of Salt Houses, the blurb gave me an impression of a novel with a lot of historical aspects; something like Chimamanda’s Half Of a Yellow Sun which has a significant portion about what leads to the war and the consequences of it. - - While I did enjoy Salt Houses, my enjoyment of the book was greatly lessened because I kept looking for the historical descriptions and instead got an emotional story of family, bonds and displacement with the history-part making fleeting appearances in the book (very much like Homegoing). And I kept reading and searching. - - I really liked Salt Houses. But it just wasn’t what I was expecting. So that made me love it lesser. I would recommend the book but be prepared for an emotional narrative are looking. Don’t go by the blurb. . . . Have you read any of these? #homegoing #books #salthouses
