11.02 “Form and Void”
the not good
zero stakes. Regardless of what the reaper said, Sam isn’t going to die. And Cas isn’t going to die. The zompire people are too much the stock mindless walkers trope to be sympathetic.
zero story movement.
The viewer already knows that Amara has the mark that implies she’s the Darkness; watching Dean and Crowley flail around like “is baby evil? baby is evil? Evil baby?????” is the opposite of exposition.
Sam and the zompire dude being like “oh yes being a zompire is bad” is the opposite of exposition
Cas’ angel BS just did not fit in this episode, it kept screwing the pacing
it’s like they’re trying to mimic the tone whiplash of earlier seasons and completely failing
Crowley still being alive is starting to really stretch my credulity. Why does Dean still think they’re frenemies. Why does he not stab the fucker.
I liked Jenna.
the good
reaper chick and Jenna were just really great
I’m sure there was something else I liked. The cinematography? Things are always pretty.
oh yeah, Sam being a badass. That was just awesome. And “What does that mean?!?!”
Cas and Dean in the same room!!!
meta notes
Jenna smashing angels as foreshadowing for the Darkness (along with Grandma calling the baby a little angel, a little miracle)
It sounded like Lucifer’s voice saying “Sam don’t do that” when he burned out the zompirism. Over-under on Sam’s demon blood being burned out too?
I feel like they’re bringing back the s8 and s9 endgames with Dean holding a baby and Sam running into burning buildings.
score: like a C? but I feel like I should be grading on a curve so a B
