Sam finished changing from his tuxedo to a t-shirt and some shorts and fell onto his bed. The night was exciting as well as tiring. He smiled as he finally began to fall into a peaceful slumber, on the brink of sleep when...his phone started to ring. He groaned, knowing that it was Aaron by the ringtone and picked it up.
“Hey Aaron.” He sighed, his southern accent clashing with his tired tone.
“Hey Sammy! You got tickets for the after prom right?” Aaron’s cheerful voice asked.
“No I was actually planning to go to sleep.”
“That’s okay, I got you a ticket to go!”
Sam closed his eyes and sighed. He really didn’t feel like going, he was so tired. He also knew that he had to witness Ben and Aaron competing with each other due to the several games that were going to be present. Or perhaps Neal would win something and tick off Percy again, since Neal was considered more lucky than him. However it was pointless to try and and get out of this.
“Where are ya picking me up?” He asked.
“Oh I’m outside your window right now!” Aaron stated.
Sam frowned and blinked, outside his window? He turned towards his bedroom window and yelped, nearly falling off the bed in shock. Yep he was outside his window and the boy laughed and fell to the ground. Sam, trying not to laugh, stomped over to the window and opened it up.
“What are you doing?!”
“W-we came to pick you u-up!” Aaron wheezed, still laughing.
“Aaron..” Ben sighed and shook his head.
Percy and Neal stood off to the side, Percy looking down while Neal was texting his prom date.
“S-sorry about this.” Percy muttered.
“Nah you’re fine, I’ve been dealing with this ever since first grade.” Sam said, playfully glaring at Aaron.
Aaron put on a fake innocent expression.
“Who me?” He asked.
Sam glared again, but held back a smile.
Aaron giggled and stood up.
“So, change into some regular clothes and come on!” He said.
Sam rolled his eyes and shut his window.
----
When they got there, Sam immediately knew that it was a Hollywood slash Vegas themed after prom. The path from the parking lot to the school was covered in a large velvet red carpet, fake palm trees, and fake limos outside. Aaron quickly took Ben by the arm and the two ran in, Ben begging him to slow down.
The others soon went into the lobby, the school covered head to toe in glowy celebrity decor. Sam glanced at Percy and he knew he didn’t want to really be here. Why did he go then? They only been friends for a few months and they knew that Percy wasn’t social in the slightest.
They soon entered the gym and it was full of vegas/lottery themed games.
Aaron quickly made his way over to one of the games.
“And there he goes.” Sam sighed.
“I just hope he doesn’t go crazy with all of this game playing, who knows how much money his little hands would grab.” Ben said.
“I would think he’d go to the inflatables first.” Percy muttered.
Neal turned to him, eyes wide.
“You can win money at these things?!” He asked.
“Yeah but you can only play them once or twice-”
But Neal was already gone, on his way to getting as much dough as possible.
Ben excused himself and followed Aaron, as he was currently grabbing for money in a small wind booth game, leaving Percy and Sam alone. Sam watched him go.
Ben and Aaron, ever since they got together, they’ve been so competitive. Their worst weakness was games and it can be any game. Video game, Board game, it didn’t matter to them. Just as long as either of them won. Sam sure hoped that they don’t get into another argument over this.
Percy fidgeted and looked around, unsure of where to go from here.
“Want to go to the mini golf court in the history hallway?” Sam asked.
Percy looked up, thinking he was talking to someone else at first but then he realized that he was talking to him. He nodded slightly.
The history hallway was dark and the golf course lit up with neon tape and paint.
“A black light golf course?” Sam wondered aloud before he nearly tripped on a shoe.
“S-Sorry I didn’t see you.” Percy said.
“Hey it’s dark so…”
Percy nodded and kept looking down. Sam shrugged it off and went first, putter in hand. He hit the ball and it went near the hole and into the flower pit. Percy snickered and turned away, however he wasn’t much better as his ball barely made it halfway. He breathed heavily, making his long bangs move a bit. The two then continued, joking at just how bad they were at this.
“Yes I won again!” Aaron cheered, grabbing a small prize.
Ben threw down the fake hammer in frustration. He lost to Aaron so many times today it was frustrating! Now he’s lost to Aaron on the High Striker and it was a game Ben was so good at!
“Come on! You cheated!”
“Nu uh! You just suck!” Aaron teased, sticking his tongue out.
“Come on there has to be a game I can beat you at!” Ben looked around the gym, searching.
Aaron patted his shoulder and smiled.
“Just let it go Benny, we can go have some pizza and tacos.” He said.
“No I have to beat you at something!” Ben shouted, searching until he found the perfect game.
It was a large and long inflatable where two people can race each other to the end. He smiled and grabbed Aaron’s arm.
“Come on!”
“There aren’t even any prizes there!”
“I don’t care, just as long as I beat you at something!”
After the golf course, Sam and Percy decided to go to the library where raffle prizes were given and where the t-shirts were sold. The two decided to get in line when Neal walked up to them, his pockets full of money.
“Hi Perc.” He greeted, a goofy grin on his face.
Percy turned to him and his eyes widened in shock at the amount of money he had.
“Holy crap Neal how much money did you get?!” He asked.
“Hmmmm about...fifty dollars in these pockets and another fifty in my wallet?” Neal estimated.
Sam’s jaw dropped.
“You won over a hundred dollars?!” He questioned.
Neal nodded and smirked.
“You should try it Perc, I bet you’ll get over five-hundred dollars.”
“That’s impossible Neal, there isn’t that much money in the school!” Percy protested.
“It was a made up number Percy jeez.”
Sam laughed before hearing the announcements go off.
“Everyone the first few winners of the walk in raffle have been announced, please go to the library to see if you won!”
Sam looked over as the raffle table’s winner board was raised. He tried to find his name but unfortunately couldn’t find it. He tried to find Aaron’s or Ben’s name, but he could only find Aaron’s name on one of the boards. Sam quickly texted Aaron to let him know that he won and he felt Percy go past him to go up and look for his name.
“Darn it I didn’t win jack!” Neal huffed, crossing his arms.
“A hundred dollars wasn’t enough for ya Nealy?” Sam jokingly asked.
Neal playfully glared at him and smirked.
“It’s never enough for me.” He said.
Sam laughed a bit and looked for Percy’s name, but his answer was quickly answered when Percy came back with a huge gift basket with all sorts of stuff in it, and holding back a smile.
“You won something?! You lucky little dork!” Neal exclaimed, playfully hitting his arm.
“I didn’t expect to win anything I was looking for your name when I saw mine on one of the top rows.”
Sam peered into the gift basket, and it was full of gift cards to several stores and most were Itunes cards, school supplies, two books, candy, a tin of cookie dough, two afterprom t-shirts, and a new Iphone with matching set of headphones and charger.
“You even got a Iphone?! Percy you are too lucky!” Neal huffed.
“I never won one of these before! You won plenty of these!” Percy protested.
“I did?” Neal asked, frowning.
“Remember that super bike you got for a raffle when you were six?” Percy asked.
Neal paused and thought about it before he nodded.
“Yeah I remember that.”
“And the spa kit that you ended up giving to mom?”
“Yep, I kept the bath salts.”
“And the freaking gift basket that’s similar to mine?” Percy asked.
“Yeah but it didn’t have a Iphone, cookie dough, or books!” Neal huffed.
“That’s true but what I’m saying is that I have never won a raffle or any of these prize things before until today and you won a lot!”
Neal then nodded again.
“Yeah sounds fair to me...just let me have the Iphone.” He said.
“What?! No you have one already, heck dad is considering giving you his old one!” Percy argued, holding his basket up in the air.
“So what are you going to keep it, mister ‘I already have two Apple related products’?” Neal snapped, placing his hands on his hips.
“No I’m going to give it to someone who can use it.” Percy said before turning to Sam.
“Do you need a Iphone?” He asked.
Sam shook his head and pulled out his phone.
“I like mine just the way it is so no thanks.”
Percy nodded a bit before thinking.
“Ben’s already got one...Vicki does too….hmmm what about Aaron?” Percy thought before Aaron and Ben came over, Aaron smirking while Ben was holding a smaller gift basket.
“I won us a free trip to Lockheart land!” He announced, holding up five tickets.
“Aaron that’s amazing!” Sam exclaimed.
“Ben won a gift basket.” Aaron said, his tone suggesting that his prize was better than a gift basket.
“Hey! I at least won something tonight!” Ben huffed.
Aaron sniffed in mockery and looked at Percy’s prize.
“Sheesh Perc you got lucky tonight!”
Percy bit his lip and looked down.
“Some of the gifts in here I won’t need.” He muttered.
“Eh? Like what?” Ben asked.
“A Iphone...these t-shirts…” Percy muttered.
“What’s wrong with the t-shirts?” Neal asked.
Percy set down the basket and pulled out the t-shirts.
“These are too small! One’s a small and the other’s a medium. I’m a X-large these won’t fit!” He said.
“Then can I have one? I’m a medium.” Ben suggested.
Percy handed the t-shirt to Ben, who happily took it from him.
“I can give the small to Vicki.” Aaron said.
Vicki, Aaron’s little sister and Percy’s number one fan and crush. She was unable to go tonight because she unfortunately got a stomach bug that’s been going around and was forced to stay home. She didn’t care a lot for prom, but the afterprom is the place she desperately wanted to be at and when she was told she couldn’t go, the poor girl was heartbroken.
Percy then gave the small to him, wishing that Vicki would get well soon.
“Oh! Also do you need an Iphone by any chance?” Percy asked.
Aaron smiled a bit and nodded.
“I do need one, my phone broke so I had to use Vicki’s old one.” He said
Percy’s face lit up as he pulled out the box and handed it to Aaron.
“I have two so I don’t need this one.” He said before he fell to the ground, just barely missing his gift basket.
“I love you man!” Aaron squealed.
“Aaron jeez you’re welcome! Now please calm down before you break the phone!” Percy groaned.
Aaron gasped a bit, nodded, and got up.
Percy dusted himself off and sighed. Man Aaron was a handful, he doesn’t get on how Ben can handle it.
“So what are you in line for?” Ben asked.
“T-shirts.”
Ben nodded and looked at the line, which looked pretty long from where he was standing.
“Seems like you’ll be here for a while.” He muttered.
Sam nodded and looked at the very long line.
“Are you going to wait here too?” Percy asked.
“Nah, I have to beat this butt at something other than a inflatable race.” Ben huffed, glaring at Aaron, who gave him a smug grin.
“Ohh, yeah. Don’t worry Ben I felt that pain before.” Sam said.
Aaron kept his smug grin. However his grin slowly left him as he began to think on some things.
“But at least you won something against him, and there are still plenty of games out there.” Percy brought up.
“Yeah that’s true.” Ben muttered.
Aaron patted his shoulder and headbutted his head gently.
“Hey how about after we get some t-shirts we go play some mini golf? No keeping score, no winning or losing, just some good and wholesome fun.” He said.
Ben’s eyes widened and he frowned.
“Wait are you sure? Why?” He asked.
Aaron looked down at the ground and smiled with embarrassment.
“Because I kinda realize on how much of a pain in the butt I’ve been and on how much fun we should be having instead of just competing.” He muttered.
Ben was taken back by this, that didn’t take long at all! However he was right.
“Okay fine, but can we get some ice cream too? I’ve been craving a chocolate and peanut butter swirl all night.” He said.
Aaron nodded and stood in line.
“So you’re going to get a t-shirt too?” Neal asked.
“Eh why not? Besides I want to take a break from all of this game playing.” Aaron said, shrugging.
The five then waited for nearly an hour, trying to get their t-shirts. However at least the rest of their night was deemed very memorable.
