Pontefract Squash Club’s Sam Todd confirmed his status as the best under 17 player in the world when he won the British Under 17 Junior Open in Birmingham.

There were only three 13/16 seeds in action in Round One, but England’s Sam Todd, the British Junior Open U15 Champion, must have been close to being seeded, as was his opponent Duncan Lee of Malaysia.
“Neither of those two deserved such a tough first round,” said Sam’s Dad Mick after watching his son scrape through 11-7, 7-11, 12-10, 4-11 11-9 in 62 minutes, the longest match of the day so far.
Sam would go on to win his second round match, 3-1 over Pakistan’s Muhammad Azair, to reach the last 32.
