sam couldn’t remember how he came across the forest, perhaps chasing a butterfly or another creature, but when the sun began to set he realized he was utterly lost. panicked and with limited control of his abilities, the young shifter transformed into his magpie form in a frantic state and flew and flew. sam didn’t know where he was going, but something was calling him deeper into the woods and before long, he found himself within the town of portum. the startled child was disoriented by the night’s shadows, slamming into a window and falling unconscious
a portum resident found the unconscious child, now in human form. sam had no memory of his life prior to the forest, only his name: samuel vu. his was injured from his accident, body battered and bruised from the impact against glass and skin scratched and torn from frantic flying through the trees. the person who found him nursed him back to health, taking him in and raising him as their own. they offered him a safe home with a roof over his head, warm food always on the table. there was never a moment sam doubted his adoptive family’s love for him
growing up in portum, sam found difficulty concentrating in school. he thrived in his arts and english classes, but struggled to focus on information in other subjects. when he was introduced to crochet, everything changed. with the ability to move his hands while listening to lectures, he felt like he was finally able to take in the information being presented. he used crochet to help soothe himself during lectures and his grades saw great improvement. during his schooling, he took a part time job at midnight steep to earn a bit more spending money and fund his hobbies
upon graduation, sam was able to take on more hours at the midnight steep and, eventually, was promoted to a managerial position. sam loves his job, sharing tea and tea related trinkets with other enthusiasts makes his heart feel warm and fuzzy. while dealing with confrontation is still a skill he is still working, sam cares for his employees and protects them at all costs
