The mausoleum of Imam al-Bukhary at Hartang, a village near #Samarkhand . Imam Al-Bukhary is a famous theologian, author and hadith collector. During the Soviet period, this place was left dilapidated, forgotten. But thanks to President Sukarno of Indonesia who -in 1950s- requested for a visit to give his respect to the holy man, the place was once again revived. The place was fully restored at the initiative of Islam Karimov, the then President of Uzbekistan. A magnificent memorial complex was built; a mausoleum, a mosque, library as well as madrassas. The place is adorned with beautiful colorful tiles, mosaics, marbles, stones and others. What a sight! Imam Al-Bukhary's actual tomb is in fact underneath the rectangular structure, access via narrow steps at the side of the structure, down to a small space. To avoid extreme worshiping by some, it is rarely open to the public. We were very fortunate that day to be invited by the person in-charge to the tomb and spent the most meaningful fifteen minutes of our time. #ilovetravel #ainihopandtrot #trav3lr #peoplecultureandart #streetphoto #naturelover #uzbekistan #travelingland
