Tonight's Edition: College AU!

Sam's a 2nd year engineering major that transferred from a school in Louisiana to a school in Arizona because thats the school his sister was going to and he wanted to stay close to her

Sarah is in her 1st year and studying business with a math minor (going into finance and accounting)

Sharon's also in her 1st year and studying polisci with a psych minor (going into foreign relations)

Joaquin is ALSO in his 1st year and he's studying filmography

Sarah, Sharon and Joaquin meet in their first art and design class (we love electives) and after finding out they stay in the same dorm they become fast friends

Sarah and Sharon are in calc together but Joaquin is in a different calc class

Its here he meets Sam for the first time

Sam is sitting right behind Joaquin and always notices when he walks in because he usually comes in right as class starts

He wants to say hi but feels awkward as a 2nd year talking to who he's assuming is a first year

This goes on for a couple of weeks until one day Sam drops his pencil and it rolls off the desk and far far away into the crowds of feet

Joaquin hears it fall, sees it roll away, and then hears Sam subtle "fuck" about the whole situation so he turns around and rests his pencil on Sams desk

Joaquin's has a little clip so it has no choice but to stay put

Sam grumbles out a thanks and Joaquin looks over his shoulder smiling with a wink then nods and turns back around

Sam tries to give Joaquin his pencil back but as soon as class is done Joaquin is out the door

This was the last class before midterm break so for a whole week Joaquin's smile is on his mind, and the need to give him back his pencil of course

The next time they have class Joaquin's seat ends up getting taken so he has to sit all the way across the room

This happens for many more weeks until finally he comes early enough to get his seat back

All this time Sam his ranting to his current best friends Steve and Bucky (also in engineering but they're 3rd years) about how he can't give the pencil back to the kid

Steve and Bucky share a knowing look, already fully aware of what this is about

On the final day of class Sam finally decides to give the pencil back one and for all

He leaves a few seconds before class ends so he can catch Joaquin as he's leaving and his plan is successful

He stops Joaquin and finally hands him his pencil back where he also finally gets to see Joaquin's full face

And its simple to say he's speechless

Joaquin thanks him for holding onto it for him and invites him to the campus coffeeshop to meetup with his friends

Sam awkwardly agrees and the two talk about their programs and what they want to do after their done with school

They reach the shop and they see Sarah and Sharon waiting on Joaquin

When they see Sam, Sarah jumps up to greet him and they have a little hug

Sams a bit surprised that Sarah's known this mystery man all along and he didn't realize

Sarah of course knows how much Sam's been agonizing over this boy and this pencil but didn't think it'd be Joaquin

The 4 hv a bite to eat and then go their separate ways

Sam thinks he's not going to ever see Joaquin again as he pulls further and further along in his program and is down about it all winter break

The next semester Sam's in Calc 2 and is late on first day of class and doesn't take note of where he's sitting

He realizes in the rush of getting to class he doesn't have a pencil.... again

He once again curses about this until a familiar pencil is slid along the desk towards him

He looks up and sees no one else but Joaquin sitting right next to him with his bright smile

Sam reaches for the pencil and their fingers brush for a second before Sam pulls away with a sheepish apology

The two refocus on the lesson, ready for a new semester of possibilities
