Moodboard for a SamSteve Dragon Rider au
"Our love soars on the wings of dragons and burns brighter than their fire."
Here is an idea I've been sitting on for a while. Imagine sort of a Victorian, late 19th century, steampunk setting, in a world where dragons are real and coexist with humans. Not as intelligent as their human partners, dragons are used for transport, racing, or kept as pets. They bond to their riders and the pairs become inseperable.
Enter Sam Wilson, a young rider following in his late dad's footsteps to become a professional racer. His dragon Redwing is stabled at the Stark Farm, and one day, a mysterious newcomer with a golden dragon comes along. His name is Steve, and when his skittish dragoness freaks out, Sam is the one who manages to calm her down, since he has a natural way with the dragons. Steve immediately takes a liking to him, and Sam notices his dragon Saoirse has clipped wings and doesn't want to be housed in the barn with the other dragons. There's more to Steve than meets the eye, but besides trying to figure him out, Sam has his hands full with the upcoming racing season nearing the corner, and getting Redwing in shape for the yearly competition. This time, however, he's got his newfound friend at his side to help him along. Things get more complicated when he realises he might be fostering more than just friendly feelings towards Steve.
(As far as Redwing and Saoirse are concerned, they know their riders make each other happy, and they'll do anything in their dragon power to keep it that way. Tangling them together in their reins was a solid start, but the two cheeky dragons have more than their fair share of mischief stashed under their wings.)
