“Well, that’s didn’t go as expected” Samuel mutters to himself as he watches the scene unfold, used to being the silent audience he doesn’t think to keep his comments to himself. After all, he is the invisible reaper.

Samuel feels as if he had taken countless, pointless steps as he slowly trudges his way through the silent streets, the shadows of living entities moving all around him, more opaque then usual, as in his loneliness he strains to see them and feel them around him. Busy people moving about their moral lives... they are almost silent, until he hears it. The thudding of heavy footsteps. Lifting his head he glances behind him, to see the form of a man in perfect clarity. His feet stop as he watches him, gently tilting his head, the reaper presuming himself invisible.

Peeking from behind the awnings of the building, Samuel has that niggling feeling that someone was going to die, and not in a natural way. The reaper’s suspicions only confirmed as he sees the being in the guise of a man.

With a gentle sigh, Samuel leans against the railings of the bridge, it’s wide expanse running from bank to bank of the mighty river that flows, brown, polluted and choppy through the centre of the city. The sound of seagulls caw-ing and water sloshing mix with the wind ruffling his hair past his ears, a unusual silence for somewhere so central, as on the plane of the living the hustle and bustle moves on around him, but the dead are as ever, silent.
Steadily, the sound of shuffling feet take his attention, as Samuel looks around to see an old man, shuffle along the pavement and he smiles a little sadly. A death was never a happy moment, but to see someone who had lived life, too the edge off.
True to his instinct, Samuel watches as the man clutches his chest with a jolt, before falling forward, and is dead before he hits the concrete. All around him people rush in panic, but there it was silent. Moving closer, Samuel smiles warmly as he offers out a hand, and helps the man’s spirit stand. Quickly, he changes, growing, his spine bent by age straightening, his musculature rejuvenating until a handsome, young man stands head height above him and Samuel’s smile widens. “Hello, it’s been quite a while, hasn’t it?”

Hospitals are very rarely calm, yes as Samuel slowly walks through the luminated, bright corridors, he feels none of the hussel and bustle. The living move around him like ghosts, if he focuses he can see them, he could hear them if he closed his eyes, maybe even touch them if he wanted it badly enough. His sneakers softly patter against the linoleum tiles on the floor as he moves through the A&E department, into resus.
Here the voices were louder, they spike from whispers to distant shouts as doctors and nurses panic to save a life, the heart minitor beeping continuously. As the reaper moves closer, he can see her lying in the bed. So tiny and pale, as they fight to save her life and he knows he must take it.
Reaching out he gently strokes across her forehead, brushing back her hair, as pretty brown eyes open to look up at him, and he smiles. She wont hurt any more, her life was only short, but it had to end.
"Hello" he says gently, as in the distance the sound of her heart monitor flatlines, and a male shout has Samuel look around for a moment. The poor doctors, they try so hard. This one, however, is his.
Helping her sit up and slip from the bed, Samuel takes her hand to lead her away, to the place that he still cannot visit.
Once her small frame had disappeared down the bright corridor, the reaper sighs as he looks around. There was so much death in this building, he wasn't the only reaper pacing the halls. Yet there was also life as well. Moving towards one of the open doors he steps into a small doriatory room, with a simple cot bed and a desk, somewhere, he assumes, for nurses and doctors who work so tirelessly, to rest.
Catching sight of an open book on the desk he moves closer, fingers gently reaching out to turn the notepad towards him and his smiles widens softly. Such messy handwriting, they must be a doctor. His eyes scan the scribbled medical notes for a moment, most of them not making sense, before he sees something written in the margins and frowns gently.
'I'm so tired...'
Samuel's finger gently graces the page as he can only imagine what type of person must have written this. Someone kind and caring enough to deprive themself of sleep to help others.
'I'm so tired...'
