Shane winced as he heard the dishes crash to the tile floor of his work place. The noise reverberated in his sensitive ears and he hated it. He wished he could cover them and block everything out until it stopped bouncing around in his head, but that would draw attention to himself with how long that would take. Instead, He held it in and looked over at the young waitress who had tripped and dropped the dishes. He frowned a little, knowing things like this happened all the time here, but only after he started work there. He couldn’t help but feel a little responsible.
It took him a second to realize she was going to try to pick a few pieces up by hand, which likely wouldn’t end well. Quickly, he went and grabbed the dustpan and broom and brought it out to her, deciding to help her clean when she seemed to be extremely greatful for. Once it was up, she gave him a smile of thanks and he returned it politely and put away the supplies afterwards and returned to doing his job at the cafe of taking and sometimes running the orders. It allowed him to practice his English and keep an eye out for any shadow fox hunters that may come through.
Right now they were in what he liked to call’Dead Hours’ in which few people, if any, come in and the employees get to do whatever basically until people get off work and come around. He didn’t have much to do during these hours. Usually he’d tune his hearing in to listen to the news from the tv in the corner and go over different English words in his head. Occasionally he’d talk with whoever he was working with during his shift, but that wasn’t very often as he didn’t want to make friends with anyone since he’d likely have to leave them later.
He sighed as that thought crossed his mind and shook his head. He tuned his hearing to the news as a distraction and began cleaning the counters and tables for what was probably the second time.
‘In other news, another young woman was found in her home dead of what authorities are calling an vicious animal attack. One of our journalists, however, has said that the doors were locked from the inside, so how the animal got in we don’t know. We’ll keep you updated on the case as it goes-‘ Shane shook his head. He could only imagine what kind of animal was out there killing people. He didn’t understand how it was able to get to people, but then again he didn’t know much about animals. For all he knew, there could be one smart enough to be able to get into a home and kill someone and he just didn’t know about it, but then why would the authorities be so baffled then? He shrugged and stopped his cleaning when he heard the bell above the door ring. He headed over to the register and gave the man who had entered a smile.
“Welcome to Cafe Luna, how can I help you?” He asked, knowing that line by heart so it was the easiest for him to say in English, though his strange accent still came out slightly as he spoke.
