The feast day of San Gerónimo begins this evening at Taos Pueblo with festive dancing, followed by vespers. In English this would be Saint Jerome, but no one here ever uses the English form of his name. The great church of San Gerónimo was destroyed by the US Army in 1847, with all who were sheltering inside killed—one of the greatest war crimes committed in US history. That horrific massacre is also commemorated this evening across the state of New Mexico.

Hungry from the exertion of the hike through White's Hill Open Space Preserve and then into the much larger Gary Giacomini Open Space Preserve, we stopped at the Woodacre Country Market & Deli for some grub before walking through "downtown" Woodacre.
