Das war's. Weniger spannend. Von hier aus starten allerdings viele Touren nach Fraser Island, weshalb der Ort von Backpackern doch stark frequentiert wird. 

Ich war genau über das Wochenende des "Australia Day's", dem offiziellen Nationalfeiertag Australiens, hier. Wenn bei uns ein Feiertag auf ein Wochenende fällt, haben wir ja alle schlechte Laune und ärgern uns, dass damit ein freier Tag flöten gegangen ist. Die Australier sind so freizeitorientiert, die machen das ganz pragmatisch: Wenn ein Feiertag auf ein Wochenende fällt, ist der nächste Montag einfach trotzdem frei. Daher gab's ein langes Wochenende, was für mich nur hieß, dass es wahnsinnig schwierig war irgendetwas einzukaufen, weil die Aussies diesen bekloppten Tag fast noch mehr feiern als Weihnachten oder Silvester.

Man muss allerdings auch sagen, dass ich einige Menschen kennengelernt habe, die den Australia Day weniger positiv bewertet haben und sogar ziemlich kritisch sehen. "Invasion Day" nannten sie ihn, das würde besser passen. Und da ist auch ziemlich was dran, im Grunde genommen wird die Landung der Briten in Australien gefeiert und damit der Beginn der Unterdrückung der Ureinwohner, daher gibt es zu den Feierlichkeiten auch jedes Jahr wilde Diskussionsforen zu dem Thema... Und alle die feiern, sind natürlich weiße, kein einziger Abbo...

Das das Wetter die ganze Zeit weniger toll war, war ich dann auch froh aus dem Kaff abzuhauen, da man bei schlechtem Wetter noch weniger als nichts tun kann... (Sieht man auch an den Bildern, alles total grau und langweilig... Nur die Australien-Flagge nicht, aber die ist auch 2000km weiter süd-westlich vor zwei Monaten aufgenommen worden...:D)
