It had always been Cersei's intent to keep her daughter out of things, to let Myrcella always and forever remain a bystander, innocent and untouched. But that was always destined to fail, wasn't it? Myrcella would be made a piece in this game no matter her mother's efforts otherwise. First it was Tyrion who made an unwilling pawn of her in his schemes against Cersei, then Arianne when she tried to crown her. Who will be next to try and wield her daughter's blood as a weapon for their own gain? The wound is still too fresh. The reality that her daughter was almost killed is a hard one to contend with, even after Oberyn brought her the head of the would-be assassin. Myrcella may be safe from the Darkstar, but there will be others.
Perhaps Arianne is right in some ways. Perhaps it is better to be proactive. But to crown Myrcella is to kill her. Not only that, but it endangers Tommen as well. To pit them against each other means one will die, or possibly both; such is the nature of wars of succession. As a mother, she cannot tolerate it. And yet, she knows something must be done to stop her father, or Tywin himself will drive her son to his doom in these wars of his. ❝ You know I cannot. What kind of mother would raise one child to usurp the other? And Tommen, he is only a boy ─ ❞ An innocent little boy, still too young to understand what is going on around him. A boy whom she wishes she had been a better, kinder mother to, despite her intentions to raise him strong, as her father had done to her. ❝ I am tired of everyone gambling with my children's lives. ❞
