001.   Hi,   I'm   Mari.   Anxious   potato,   cat   lover,   and   martial   arts   nerd.   I'm   over   21,   I   use   she/her,   and   I'm   in   the   US   Central   Time   Zone.   This   blog   is   private   and   will   only   interact   with   mutuals.   I   have   poor   mental   health   and   live   with   an   Anxiety   Disorder,   Major   Depressive   Disorder,   OCD,   ADHD,   Dyslexia,   just   a   whole   cocktail   of   things   that   can   make   me   have   super   low   energy   a   lot.   I   also   run   other   blogs   that   typically   have   a   higher   priority   than   this   one,   and   I'll   mostly   be   here   when   I   feel   inspired.

002.    My   portrayal   is   mostly   book   based   with   some   influences   from   the   show.   My  Cersei  is  a  lot  darker  than  the  Cersei  portrayed  on  the  show,  and  her  motivations  are  more  dubious  (and  she's  definitely  not  winning  any  mother  of  the  year  awards).  Generally,  Cersei  is  not  a  good  person,  and  she  is  an  extremely  complex  woman.  She  does  love  her  children,  yet  she  is  selfish,  and  often  acts  out  of  a  need  to  control  her  environment  and  those  around  her.  She  struggles  to  trust  and  suffers  from  paranoia  that  intensifies  after  her  son  Joffrey  is  killed.  She  relies  more  on  seduction  and  intimidation,  and  is  not  as  cunning  as  she  pretends  to  be,  often  too  self-absorbed  to  see  the  flaws  in  her  own  plans.  She  is  rash  and  arrogant  and  hides  hatred  and  violent,  spiteful  thoughts  behind  false  smiles.  She  is  a  mess  and,  by  all  standards,  a  villain  in  her  own  story,  and  I  have  no  intention  of  toning  her  down.  But  there  is  also  more  to  her  than  all  her  negative  traits.  When   it   comes   to   show   influences,   I   will   never   acknowledge   season   seven   or   eight   and   I   tend   to   be   highly   critical   of   the   later   seasons   of   the   show   in   general.  Also,  I  love  OCs,  but  I  will  be  selective  when  it  comes  to  any  OCs  meant  to  be  in  Cersei's  immediate  family,  especially  OC  children  of  hers.  I'm  not  saying  no  to  it  completely  but  Cersei's  dynamics  with  her  family  are  very  .  .  .  fucked.  And  fucked  in  a  very  specific  way.  So  it  just  needs  to  be  plotted  a  bit.  I  will  not,  however,  accept  biological  children  of  her  and  Robert  as  Cersei  went  out  of  her  way  to  make  sure  she  never  had  any  of  Robert's  children,  nor  will  I  accept  the  theory  that  she  is  Gendry's  real  mother.  Sorry,  it  just  doesn't  work  for  my  Cersei.

005.   Lmk   if   I   need   to   adjust   my   formatting   when   writing   with   you.   I   try   not   to   over-format,   and   your   accessibility   will   always   come   first.   Personally,   I   don't   mind   how   my   partners   format,   except   I   ask   that   replies   are   not   done   entirely   /   largely   in   all   caps.   Some   lines   in   caps   are   fine,   but   not   entire   paragraphs   or   large   blocks   of   text.   I   am   dyslexic   and   have   ADHD   and   reading   a   big   section   of   all   caps   text   is   extremely   difficult   for   me.

Cersei . . . doesn't really have a sense of "home". I think she had some basic sense of it as a child, feeling safe and comfortable in Casterly Rock, but after her mother dying and later coming to court, I think she's lost touch with any sense of what "home" is. Because Cersei, for the vast majority of her life, has not felt safe. She married the most powerful man in Westeros, lived in the most secure place on the continent, and still did not feel safe nor like it was her home for the two decades she has lived there. And Casterly Rock is "home" in the sense of, that's where she came from, but not that she feels any more safe or comfortable there, because if she went back, she still wouldn't. It's hard to feel secure anywhere when you're put on the defensive 24/7 for the entirety of your adult life. "Home" is a sentiment she cannot afford to indulge in.

For the longest time, she did. It's probably the biggest conflict of her life and the driving force behind Cersei becoming what she is; believing that she is worthy of love, craving to be loved, but then being denied it over and over again. Her mother died when she was young and her father thought love to be a weakness. She was told she wasn't good enough for the prince she was convinced she would marry and humiliated. She married a king, but then this man who was supposed to love her and cherish her as his wife loved a dead girl more than her. A dead girl. The years didn't change anything; she couldn't win Robert's love, or anyone's. Not in earnest. No matter what she did, she was shamed and mistreated and blamed for her husband's faults when all she wanted was to be loved and cared for.

And what else could she do at that point? She couldn't sit quietly all this time knowing she deserved better, knowing she was denied something she needed, so she started lashing out, like a child desperate for attention. And part of her can't help but think now, after years and years of rejection that it's her fault, that maybe there is something wrong with her that made her unlovable. She's self aware enough to realize she has become a bit of a monster with all of the shit she's done, whether in retaliation or for the sake of defense, and she can't decide if she is only the monster these people turned her into or if she was always this way all along.
