Sandwick, Unst
Sandwick, Unst
Second day in Shetland and I took a series of buses and ferries to reach the island of Unst, place of the northern most point in the UK but I didn’t have enough time to visit it. Instead, I visited the south part of the island. First, I took the bus from the ferry port to Uyeasound. From there I walked to Muness castle and in the way I saw a standing stone. Then, I visited the Sandwick beach whose turquoise water can be seen in this picture. Around the area you can find viking times settlements. The landscape in the region is dominated by green grass, sheep and Shetland ponies, and views of the other islands. By the time I visited there weren’t any tourists, so it’s a good place for walking alone. On the walk back and near the ferry port, I visited some viking longhouse ruins, and then returned to Lerwick.
