carrie for the movie asks
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece
genuinely one of my favorite examples of slow burn horror ever. nearly the entire movie is build-up to the prom scene and i love how the dread sloowwwly increases before exploding. brian de palma's split screen method works incredibly well in leading up to that sequence especially. i'm usually not the biggest fan of that method but he used it really well to show everyone's point of view before the bucket dropped. sissy spacek is obviously excellent even if i wish someone who looked more like book carrie was cast...piper laurie as margaret white though. jesus fucking christ, she's in a league of her own. even without the extended backstory from the book on her she carries (lol) the same energy. i don't want to get too into comparing it to the book though lol so i'll leave it at that. also that final shot of her hand sticking out!! so good!!
