Hortus Sanitatis (by jacqui sharples)
Hortus Sanitatis ‘Garden of Health’ herbal Peter Schoeffer, (Gutenberg’s apprentice) first German edition, Mainz, 1485 The woodcuts are of plants and animals; most are recognizable. This work was Schoeffer’s most ambitious work. The typeface used is a 'new’ semi-cursive type that became popular in the late 15th century. this was obviously a working copy as there are extensive marginal notes.
