Desired Character: Gene Starwind
Series: Outlaw Star
Age: 21
Family Status: Middle/Working class
Job: Business owner of “Starwind Enterprise” based out of his home and Jack-of-all-trades. Prefers working as a bodyguard or temporary farmhand- mostly solo.
Residence: St. Louis Terrace
Personality:
In most cases, it’s rather easy to judge a book by its cover. Gene’s cover is that of a lazy, hardheaded, gluttonous, lecherous young man that would prefer to dive into a bottle or crack a joke than face reality. Despite what others might think, Gene Starwind is not one of those cases. He’s a hard worker, loyal beyond belief, caring, and always manages to find a silver lining on even the darkest clouds; not to mention the best friend a man could have. Indeed, it’s rather difficult to dislike him, no matter how childish he may first appear. At his age, it would be expected that he has a tendancy to gravitate toward beautful women for more than just chivalry’s sake, but he seems to know his boundaries. What he doesn’t know, however, is the meaning of the word restraint. In whatever Gene does, he gives his all and does whatever it takes to achieve not only the goal, but to find the best outcome. When it comes to conflict, Gene is tough enough to stand his ground, and wise enough to know when to retreat. He’s able to think on his feet and formulate battle plans that have gotten him out of some serious trouble. He may not always be victorious, but he wears his many scars with pride. Each one represents a time he fought and lived to see another day. Well, that, and the ladies love scars, as he likes to say. Gene Starwind. He may be far from perfect, and he certainly has fears and regrets like anyone else, but it’s his fiery will and perseverence that will always allow him to live life to the fullest. Despite the turmoil raging around him, he’ll keep his eyes set on tomorrow, because he can’t wait to see what the future holds in store. He is in control of his own destiny, and that’s the only thing he knows for certain.
Background:
“I’m sorry Gene, but I want you to live.” A young boy was left with those words from a father who gave his life to protect his son. The boy had only just reached the tender age of 13, and he was left with no family, no friends, no one to care for him, and no idea what to do with himself. Naturally he had a past. A decent childhood, even without the influence of motherly love, but the day he lost his father to outlaws was the day his life truly began. For a time, he lived a reckless life as anyone would have expected of him. The boy grew in size but seemed to shrink emotionally. A teenage Gene spent his time seeking revenge; searching for the men who killed his father and burned down his home and ruined his life. He would have given anything to see them dead just as he’d watched his father die. Endlessly, the boy searched and trained until he finally found them. Two years of his life had gone by filled with nothing but blind hatred, and when he’d finally exacted his revenge, Gene felt… empty. What would he do now that he’d reached his goal? How would he live if he had no purpose? 15 and with blood on his hands, the boy became a man. He admitted his crime to the police; who had agreed to let him off with a warning considering his age and the grave crimes the men had comitted. After that, he dedicated himself to honest work. He found a place to stay in Nox with a family who agreed to take him in in exchange for his help around the house. Word spread to a few nobles that he’d “taken care of” some murderous criminals and they offered him money in exchange for his protection. When he wasn’t serving as an armed escort, Gene earned money lending his physical skill to farmers in need of temporary assistance during harvest times, store owners that needed an extra set of hands or eyes, loggers and miners looking for an increase in output; indeed, Gene had become a bit of a go-to guy when it came to work. He had no trouble earning money or thanks from the various satisfied employers he’d had over the years, although he was far from becoming famous. Six years after he became a man, Gene was doing rather well for himself. Sure, he was still holed up in Nox in some crap place infested with rats and bugs; but he was proud. He was proud of himself, and he was sure his father and mother were watching over him and smiling at the sight of the man they’d brought into the world.

”Damn, this guy just won’t give up!” Gene exclaimed, knife drawn as he stood face to face with a would-be thief. The noblewoman stood behind him; well, cowered, really, As great as it was to have a beautiful woman clinging to him, it was certainly making the fight he was in difficult. Red hair flowed in the breeze as he turned to the noblewoman with a big goofy grin. “Don’t wory babe, I’ve got this guy. He’s nothing but a weasel.” Oh crap, it didn’t look like the ‘weasel’ was too happy with his new nickname. Gene pushed the woman back and dodged his attack, and with a quick stretch of his arm, he sunk his blade deep enough into the guy’s side to put him down long enough for a quick getaway.
Barely an hour later, Gene left the woman after getting paid with money and a kiss. Now that was what he liked to call a job well done. Just as he was counting his hard earned reward, he heard something… disturbing. The King was apparently dead. He hadn’t meant it, but a boisterous laugh resounded from the redhead. As if the King could really be dead. By the time he made it back to Nox, however, it was obvious that it was no lie. Gene stood still in shock for a moment, taking in the news. The King… was really dead. What did that mean? Things were about to get crazy in Delumine, that much was certain. Nox was going to get a lot more dangerous and the nobles would likely all go scrambling; but on the bright side, business would likely be booming. Suddenly, Gene was overcome by a huge grin. He’d finally get his chance to make it big! Starwind Enterprise was about to become a big name in Delumine, Gene just knew it. Sure, it sucked that the old man bit it, but there were more important things to focus on. Like money!
