Explosives have been found at the Texas high school where at least eight people were killed when a shooter opened fire at a high school near Houston on Friday morning, according to officials. But the death toll could be as high as 10, and the majority of the victims are likely students, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said at a press conference. According to officials: “There have been explosive items found in the high school and outside the high school,” Santa Fe Independent School District Police Chief Walter Braun said at a press conference. “Because of this, everyone should be on the lookout for suspicious items and anything that looks out of place.” Police are also sweeping a mobile home near the school in the town of Santa Fe for possible explosives, according to KHOU11 News. Some students also reported seeing the shooter throwing explosives into a classroom, according to KHO11. Along with those who were killed at least 12 others were injured, including one law enforcement officer, according to the Houston Chronicle. One student told TV station KTRK that a gunman came into her first-period art class and started shooting. The student said she saw one girl with blood on her leg as the class evacuated the room. “We thought it was a fire drill at first but really, the teacher said, ‘Start running.'” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that one suspect is in custody, and a second “possible person of interest” is being detained and questioned.
