so the story takes place in this fantasy country of malgranis, where they are ruled over by this guy named the pythia. the pythia is seeking a way to regain the power of the liaison, which was this person who was elected by the gods to serve as a "spokesperson for the people" in a way and was given as much power as a god. the last liaison died years ago because he sought to better circumstances in malgranis to help the people, but the gods weren't having that and killed him, burning the entire capitol city in the process and having the country break out into this elongated state of "there's SO much tension but we're not gonna have a war yet". long winded i'm sorry. so basically the gods promise the pythia that if he's able to reunite the country (through any means), they will allow him to become the liaison. the pythia doesn't have the people's best interest at heart and is just doing this to gain more power because... obviously.

the story starts with a girl waking up in the woods (yes ik i hate the amnesia trope but it happens here) with a package, and in this package are letters to a few different people giving them instructions and indicating events that are going to happen a few weeks in the future that may interfere with the work they need to do. skipping through this a bit but this girl (the courier as they call her) wanders into town and meets dante, henry, caspian, and enzo. these five team up and use the letters and the connections they have to interfere with the pythia's work at connecting the country
