সাওম বা রোজা কী?

সাওম বা রোজা কী? ‘সিয়ামুন’ শব্দটি ‘সাওমুন’-এর বহুবচন। এটি একটি আরবি শব্দ এবং ইসলামের ধর্মীয় পরিভাষাগুলোর অন্যতম। যার আভিধানিক অর্থ বিরত থাকা। আর পারিভাষিক অর্থে সাওম বা সিয়াম বলতে কোনো মুমিন ব্যক্তি মহান আল্লাহর নির্দেশ পালনের নিয়তে তাঁরই নৈকট্য লাভের উদ্দেশ্যে সুবহে সাদিক উদিত হওয়ার পূর্ব থেকে সূর্যাস্ত পর্যন্ত খাদ্য-পানীয় ও যৌনতা থেকে বিরত থাকাকে বোঝায়। সাওমকে আমরা বাংলা ভাষাভাষী মানুষ রোজা বলে জানি।
