I am so so happy that people are aware of Hikaru's aroace-experience and a lot of people have eloquently explained why his character can be interpreted that way!! Still here's my two cents on the last episode:
One of the reasons I relate to Hikaru as an aroace person is that it's very difficult to distinguish between my romantic and platonic feelings, and they might even change on a day to day basis. At that point, classifying them as either feels wrong. But I have a long-term partner that I care for consistently, and at the end of the day he doesn't ask for a day by day clarification for my feelings. I don't think too much about it anymore.
So when Hikaru said "I don't know if this is platonic or romantic, I love you as the monster I am" that hit very close to home. It's kinda upsetting when fans dismiss the aromantic interpretation because "he's not human in the first place, why are we using labels"
While I get the argument, when there's a label that encapsulates this specific human experience, it's kinda hurtful to imply that the reason Hikaru feels this way is his alien nature.
Anyways I love this story with my entire being, it's amazing to see the discussion around it, and if you read this far have a flower 🏵️💚
