ALWAYS BELIEVE YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
Set: somewhere within second half season 5 / first half of season 6
Everything was shades of blue and white, and that day Grissom's eyes were the clearest shade of blue Sara had ever seen. He had folded up the sleeves of his shirt, the edge of the folds sharp, just above his elbows. The loosely knotted tie dangled between his chest and the edge of the table.
After the hearing for the Jason case, in which they'd both had to testify, he'd said he was hungry, and now they were on the patio of a restaurant, not far from the courthouse, overlooking one of the rare green woods around Las Vegas, at the edge of an artificial pond.
The sun was high, and everything seemed to be made of diamond by how much it shone.
He was silent and brooding. She was hesitant and guarded.
"I wanted to ask you something," Grissom said, halfway through the meal.
Sara's heart trembled. "Tell me," she replied.
He told her about a case he had worked on a while back.
"I wanted to ask you something," he said again, standing in front of the car, at the end of the meal.
Sara's hair was stirred by a passing breeze. "What case?" she asked, smiling with surrender.
"You and me," Grissom replied.
A flock of birds rose into the air, a group of people laughed from the restaurant terrace, a stronger breeze made the leaves of all the trees around quiver.
"What do you mean?" Sara asked.
Grissom opened his mouth, but closed it again. Sara shivered. She lowered her gaze so he wouldn't feel threatened by her eyes.
"I feel like I want to kiss you," Grissom replied.
