I sat alone in this beautiful park in the gorgeous weather today with my #currentread #defy by #sarablarson I almost stopped reading this one because of some #triggerwarning sexual assault built into the #fantasy society, which is usually a big turn-off for me, personally. But I’m glad I kept reading this one, it’s really interesting! A girl dresses as a boy at her twin brother’s suggestion to escape the horrible fate of girls captured by the armies, and instead becomes the most skilled soldier in the prince’s personal guard. But as she grows up and her figure gets more feminine and her emotions for her comrades and the prince begin to change, can she keep her secret or will she be punished extra for hiding, as is the standard practice? It’s my bestie @sarablarson’s birthday! This girl has my back like no other. She’s sad for me when I’m sad. Angry for me when I’m angry. She lets me feel all the feels and then some. I need to be more like her. Sometimes I try too hard to help people see the brighter side of things. BONE CRIER’S MOON releases in 13 days on March 3rd! I can’t believe how quickly that date is approaching. I’m so excited to share this book with all of you! 🌙 The blurb I’m sharing today is from one very special lady—who just happens to be my best friend! @sarablarson and I met years ago when we were both between agents and going through some pretty discouraging life and career troubles. We quickly bonded over that, but what really sparked our deep friendship was how much we loved each other’s writing. 🌙 Sara writes YA fantasy, like me, and it’s epic, emotional, romantic, and gripping. I can’t decide which of her books I love the best, but I have a special place in my heart for both DEFY and SISTERS OF SHADOW AND LIGHT. If you haven’t read them yet, get on that! 🌙 Sara became published two years before I did (she actually introduced me to our current agent), and so when it was my turn, she was there to show me the ropes and talk me off many ledges, especially when I had colossal meltdown after colossal meltdown while writing my second book in my first series. Those second books are hard! Ask any author. 🌙 I hope I’ve come to be as supportive to Sara as she’s been to me all these years. She has the most generous heart. She’s the first to offer relief or raise funds when catastrophes strike or when a friend is going through a rough time. She brought me a huge basket of gifts from local author friends after my dad passed away, and she’s always the one who organizes birthday lunches with our friends and makes sure people feel loved and remembered. 🌙 I’m so grateful we met and became besties.
